Two notices on the noticeboard, with varying degrees of accurate spelling rewritten by Gen:

If any here have information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Alexander Misurov, please advise Mr. Edgar Huntly. He may be found in the main hall between the hours of noon and three.

and also, in much larger letters,

One bedframe, free, with mattress.

Sam peers at the note, calmer for his trip with Mickle, but still with a downward slant to his mouth.

"If you want, I can take a look around. Though my record here's been bad enough I may drive the man into hiding by trying to help."

"The--oh, Mr. Spade. I have found Mr. Misurov, but he has been of less help than I had imagined he would."

[mancalledspade]

He turns. "Mr Huntly. That is a shame. What were you looking for help with, if you don't mind the question."

[edgar_huntly]

"I am trying to find a way to resurrect a ghost, actually. He had suggested that Mr. Misurov might be able to help with the process. At the moment, I am actually hoping to encounter a woman named Helen Rossi, who also has some experience with the not-dead."

[mancalledspade]

"What, the person's not just coming back on their own?"

[edgar_huntly]

"He came as a ghost, he says, although his skin is near-perfectly solid to the touch. Have you ever heard of anything of the sort?"

[mancalledspade]

"I've heard a lot of strange stuff in this place. What's he look like, this ghost of yours?"

[edgar_huntly]

"Like a boy--a queer sort of boy, very poorly dressed, with a kind of energy about him that is near-livid, for all he looked rather pale. His name was Kavi."

[mancalledspade]

Spade's expression, never very open, abruptly closes up completely. "I see."

[edgar_huntly]

And Edgar doesn't at all. "Have you heard of him?"

[mancalledspade]

"Met him." He takes a long drag on his cigarette. "He was what put me in the condition you first met me in."

[edgar_huntly]

Incredulously, "That little boy?"

[mancalledspade]

A bitter laugh. "Yeah."

[edgar_huntly]

He shakes his head. "I cannot understand it. He seemed quite harmless when I met him. Could you be mistaken?"

[mancalledspade]

"Not unless there are two Kavis running around this joint. I made a point to remember that one, given the shape he left me in."

[edgar_huntly]

"May I ask what exactly it was that he did?"
