oh crepe.
last night i was holdin little R.F. Chinstrap in my manly claws and he fell to the floor - only 2 ft - and i'm talkin hard wood floor. he landed on his legsies but THIS TIME he hurt one leg and was limping around so so so sadly. he lay down on my bed, nuzzled his face into my comforter folds and fretted. i panicked, tore out all my hair.
ok, i didn't tear anything, but it scared me silly. he seemed to be okay and not in pain soon after and was usin the leg in his cage last night but - keanu reeves woah! - today he was limping and having trouble getting around his cage and just sprawled out for hourssssss.
he took him to a vet and was instructed by Dr. A. Cox to give chin some meds orally for 5 days - there was no bone damage, maybe just some small tissue stuff.
chin's in his old cage now. it's smaller and safer and has no leaping opps. he seems content enough.
on the gem of it, he is a fine weight and in good health says doc.
when a chinchilla breaks a leg, particularly a back leg, it is ten big bens taller than when a dog or cat gets cripped. doctors have trouble putting chins under anesthetic --> their little hearts can't take it (the doctors' or the chins'?) if a leg IS put in a splint, it often grows back weird and has to be amputated. just think: he wouldn't be able to stand up anymore... it was such a commanding blow seeing him limping around. it hadn't set in until then how much i love the little guy.
rest up little chinny...
