Summary: Simon once again visits a familiar nightmare. But this time, the ending tells a different story...
------
Simon's sleep was a peaceful one after being rescued. He'd been through some troubling things and had some difficult conversations over the past few days, but had put them all out of his mind to get some proper rest so he could deal with and unpack the implications and consequences when he was mentally ready to.
He was staying in Section 4 with his friends, sleeping in Castle's bed, his injured leg now properly wrapped up and iced and resting on several pillows. Qi was around somewhere, too. She always was.
For now, it was right.
However, when he began to dream, things were definitely no longer right.
The dark village. The angry mob. The torches, the fire, the brush, the stake. And he was the one tied to it, facing the crowd, sweat pouring down his face. He was going to be executed. Why? Why was he dreaming about this again? He had hoped learning the truth would put this nightmare to rest...
He was then startled when two familiar voices rang out.
"Dance, Sode no Shirayuki!"
"Unhand him."
The crowd cried out in shock and- just like in his memory- parted as several figures strode through. However, unlike his memory, a pile of snow fell on top of the torches and brush, extinguishing the flames. And the people coming to save him weren't Mal and the unknown woman, but Kazahana and Brianna, both armed. They both seemed to be surrounded by snow, generating the stuff that had put out the fire. Kagerou and Genius came casually in their wake, each of them carrying one blade of Sougyo no Kotowari- meaning his father was here, too, in a way. Castle brought up the rear, wearing Mal's brown coat- yet it had to be Castle, because Tribble rode on his shoulder.
"Is this the moment we step up and make a rousing heroic speech about how it's wrong to make angry torch mobs and light people on fire, then have a good swordfight? I've always wanted to do that," said Genius, and Kagerou laughed.
And instead of a spaceship appearing overhead, there was instead a rush of wings as a green manta ray- Minazuki- and a dinosaur swooped over him. Bellflower landed lightly on her feet behind him and began to untie him, while Above landed to the side and clacked her beak in warning at the mob, who appeared to be readying to attack.
< Don't touch him, losers. >
"Time to go, moon." Qi had appeared suddenly at his side, and he threw his arms around her once he was unbound. "Don't look so surprised. You have your planet and your stars."
Another voice, that somehow seemed to be a blend of all the others who were present, and more of his loved ones that weren't, spoke up.
"We'll always come for you. No matter what."
Simon woke after that with a start, but he had a smile on his face. His friends. His loved ones. He had so many people who cared about him here, in spite of the Sphere trying to break them apart. No matter what happened to the Sphere after this, he would always have that in his heart.
And though he didn't know it at the time, he would never dream of that place again.
