Ginko stood still, admiring the scenery. Everything was so alive here; you could see the life throbbing everywhere you looked. A small deer approached him and, when he didn't move, it sniffed his hand.

He started violently as the tree directly next to him spontaneously combusted. The deer took flight at his sudden movement, and he backed away, eye wide--

He blinked. The tree, still burning merrily, didn't seem to be actually affected by the blaze. He could still see the leaves through the flames, whole and unblackened. "Huh." That was definitely something you didn't see every day.

A distant 'Hyah!' sound drew his attention away from the tree (which had just stopped burning as abruptly as it had started, anyway), and he turned, following the noise. Maybe it would be someone who could tell him about the un-burning trees.

Spring sensed another visitor in his dreamscape, someone not completely unfamiliar, but not the most recognizable signature. It wasn't chakra he was picking up. Just an awareness that someone he knew from somewhere was fast approaching.

He ceased his training and turned to see Ginko making his way closer. He didn't notice the change, but just seeing Ginko made cat ears and tail manifest upon him. It wasn't a subtle change, but the abruptness of it didn't bother him at all.

"Ginko-san! Good day to you!" He waved at his friend, then started walking his way with his tail swishing happily behind him. No need to make the other man walk the entire way when they could meet in the middle.

Ginko smiled when the younger man came into view. His own ears and tail, apparently triggered by the appearance of Spring's, also came into being without Ginko really noticing.

His ears pricking forward in pleased interest, he slowed his pace a touch. "Hey, Spring." Once they were close enough to talk comfortably he stopped, hands in his pockets and tail lazily swishing back and forth. "It's been a while."

Ginko suddenly had cat-like features again too, but this was nothing new or surprising. In fact, Spring would have to wonder if they hadn't been there the whole time.

The older man was a bit quiet, but most people seemed quiet when they stood next to Spring or Gai. He seemed at ease enough, however. Spring's own ears twitched forward in attentiveness as he neared. "It has! I am glad to see you again, Ginko-san. Have you come to train as well?"

Spring was always looking for new challenges, but even if Ginko wasn't the fighting type they could at least have a good day here in the forest of eternal springtime.

He chuckled quietly, his tail flicking with amusement. "No, I didn't come here to do that." Actually, why had he come here? He paused for a moment, frowning faintly.

...well, it probably didn't matter. Especially since one of the trees nearby caught fire, distracting him nicely. "Why do they do that?" His tone was curious, his ears pricking toward the burning tree.

Hearing Ginko chuckle was warming. Spring decided he needed to smile and laugh more often. It was definitely much better than Ginko being quiet and melancholy.

Spring's ears, which had been perked in comforted ease, folded back and his tail fluffed at the sudden bursting of flames. Ginko seemed more intrigued than worried, which was reassuring in its own way. Spring couldn't quite grow comfortable with the phenomenon.

"It is... I am not sure, if I am to be honest. However..." Spring forced himself to relax, though his fur wasn't quite as sleeked down as it could have been. "... I do not think it is a good thing."

The fluffing of Spring's fur (and hair) was met with an amused glance, but Ginko didn't comment on it.

"Well," he drawled, his attention going back to the tree, "it doesn't seem to hurt them. I mean, the leaves look fine, the bark isn't blackened. I'm not so sure this is a bad thing, either." He was finding this perhaps a little too fascinating; it made him think of mushi, though he couldn't bring one to mind that might do something like this.

As if summoned by his thought, back in the trees, in an area the two people couldn't see it, a jellyfish-like mushi slowly appeared from thin air. It hung there, undulating gently in the still air.

Spring rubbed at his arms, as though trying to warm away goosebumps that may be hidden under his bandages. His ears twitched back in his discomfort.

"That may be true but." Spring stopped, his voice lowering to a volume it did not usually fall to. "But it makes me think of the birth dream. Like I need to put the fire out."

Spring reached out his hand towards the fire. He wasn't thinking about what would happen if his bandages caught or if he were to get burned, but the mushi appearing distracted him before he could quite reach it. His eyes seem to grow rounded as he gazed at the floating jellyfish creature. "What is that?"

Ginko tensed, his own fur fluffing in alarm as Spring reached for the flames. "Spring, wait...!" The fact that the flames didn't hurt the trees meant less than nothing. There was no way to predict what it would do to human flesh, and he wasn't going to stand by while Spring tested that out for himself.

Thankfully, since he was too far away to stop the boy physically, something else did. He followed Spring's line of sight until he caught sight of what had distracted him.

Blinking at the creature, he moved a little closer to it--and Spring, as it happened. "It's a mushi. But what's it doing here...?"
