The sound of calm waves against a hull came out of the speakers as the screen showed a large sailing ship--it would have looked like any ship-in-a-bottle if it wasn't for the fact that it had propellers instead of sails, and an apparent crew of only four. One of them was instantly recognizable as Krile, wearing an anxious look that she wasn't bothering to hide. On either side of her were two women: one with a pink bob cut and a yellow-orange dress, and the other with a long purple mane and seaworn clothing, but with sea-green eyes that matched the other exactly. And standing in the back, looking determined but confident, was Bartz.

"We can enter the Interdimensional Rift near where Tycoon Castle used to be..." said the pink-haired one, forcing determination over sadness.

"Hurry!" said Krile, rushing onto the bowsprit. "It won't be much longer before Exdeath gains the power of the Void!"

The purple-haired one frowned. "But Ghido said we hadn't the power to fight him and win..."

"We'll need the twelve legendary weapons," Bartz said, stepping forward. "They're in the Sealed Castle of Kuza... Come on, let's go!" He hurried back to the wheel and pulled a lever as the rest of them headed to the railings to hang on. The propellors whirred choppily to life and lifted the ship from the water as they prepared to set forth, but they'd hardly passed the nearest cloud when something enormous and black rose past the horizon. Blue lightning crackled as castle and town seemed to either rise into it or sink into it--somehow it was difficult to tell. Another roar filled the air as a distant town, much smaller and more remote, met the same blackness. The air itself shook violently, making the whole airship shudder.

"All the towns are being sucked into the Void!" Krile exclaimed.

Horror and rage crossed Bartz's face as he rushed onto the bowsprit like she had just minutes before, raising his arms. "Exdeath! STOP!"

The Void appeared again over a tiny forest deep in the mountains. "Kupo!" shouted a dozen tiny voices as the moogles were sucked in. "Krile! Kupokupooo!" Their cries had hardly died out when the Void emerged above a fourth town, surrounded by woods and mountains. "Augh! Bartz! Help!!!"

The blackness receded, leaving a new bay and an enormous dark pit in the world. The party stood at the railings of the airship, helpless, enraged, devastated--Krile appeared too horrorstruck even to cry, though the same couldn't be said for the pink-haired woman. "It's awful..."

"Even a tiny place like Bartz's hometown, Lix..."

"That..." Krile swallowed. "To go that far is..."

And suddenly Bartz was behind the wheel. "AUUUUGH!" The other three were nearly thrown off their feet, holding on tight as he threw every lever and sent the airship careening through the sky. The propellers whined horribly--ominous cracking noises made themselves heard over the wild wind. But Bartz, eyes blazing with rage, didn't even notice until Krile and the others struggled aft.

"Bartz!" roared the purple-haired woman, grabbing one shoulder as the pink-haired one grabbed the other. "Stop! Get a hold of yourself!"

For a moment, it looked as though he hadn't heard her. Then his hands moved, slipping from the wheel and pulling the levers back before he sank back against the railing. The madness drained out of him in a deep, shuddering breath as he dropped his face into his hands. Below the airship, the Void gaped wide.
