There were so few cocoons these days. Iris had hardly seen a newborn in the recent weeks. It made for calmer shifts, that much was true, but she couldn't help but fret over the diminishing numbers.
When first one cocoon, then another, began to stir and crumble, she hurried, nearly tripping over her own feet, towards the newborn packages. First days of silence and then two in one go! At least there weren't three at once, like that one time after the fire when they hadn't even had any towels, she tried to tell herself.
"Y-you c-can do this!" She wasn't even stuttering very much. "Oh, I h-hope they behave themselves..."
