------
After that short trip out to buy Lotus a gift from the stand Bastet (as it turns out) worked at, Helix didn’t exactly hurry home to put his present together. He dawdled and fretted over the idea of even giving a gift in the first place, then toyed with ideas on how to improve upon the gift-Lotus gave flowers and a plush…what was left to give? Chocolates like Throne had the nerve to suggest?-and settled on not touching it for a few days.
Now…he had finally assembled the contents of the gift with the intention of delivering it to Lotus’ door. Not wanting it to look too assuming, he wrapped the shirt in plain brown paper tied with a plain string. It looked no different from the average parcel. Next, there was the matter of the picture.
The drawing, he thought, was good, though he may have gone a little overboard with the colors, but since it was crayon (the only medium he found suitable-no glitter!-other than pencil or ink), it couldn’t really be helped. That, and Helix thought the bright, vibrant colors suited Lotus well. At least he hoped they suited Lotus. Now that he looked at the picture again, maybe he should wad it up and throw it away. Lotus didn’t need his present now. He could wait.
Helix’s fingers twitched over the picture. Part of him really REALLY liked it…and part of him thought it was hideous and he could do better-Or rather that Lotus deserved better: something nicer, simpler, and more subdued. Maybe he should give him one of the sketches of people around Edensphere that Helix had done to pass the time and improve his observational skills. Except the people sketches weren’t that great either. What if that one didn’t look enough like Drake, or she wasn’t recognizable as Nova, or…?
He sighed. Nothing was really that great. The poem wasn’t really a poem, as it lacked meter or rhyme scheme; it was a set of words he wrote when Edensphere journals seemed to be going through a bout of bad limericks and silly haiku. The picture wasn’t anything close to a masterpiece. There was the shirt, which was rather nice, actually, if a little presumptuous about taking a date an outing…but the shirt was bought and, Helix wasn’t certain, but he kind of thought of Lotus as a sentimentalist who might like things found or made…(as opposed to Helix himself, a realist and reasonable person who was perfectly content with no gift at all).
He petted Tori and wondered if Lotus just happened upon good gifts or if it was a skill that came naturally to the other boy. If it was a skill, it was one Helix envied.
Helix did not like second-guessing himself so much. He was used to being self-assured. Deciding the picture wasn’t half bad after all, he slid it into the green envelope, along with the parchment he copied the ‘poem’ on. On the outside of the envelope, he had written To: Lotus, From Helix in a nice script. He slid the envelope under the string to secure it to the shirt package.
It was a long trip to sector one to deliver the present, but Helix made it all the way to Lotus’ door without a hitch. And then…standing at the door, hand poised to knock, his nerves flared up again. He set the gift on the doorstep and then knocked, his heart beating loudly in his ears. For a second, he waited, riveted to the spot, then Helix backed out slowly, keeping his eyes on the door, hoping Lotus wasn’t home.
He shouldn’t just leave it there after what he had said to Lotus about the anonymous flowers. But…well…
There was a card.
Helix only got as far as the end of the walk. Alright, maybe he wasn’t really trying…
[[ooc: For reference there are three parts to the gift: a picture and a poem (together), and the shirt.
