It was different from the other times he had waken up in a new place.

Generally he woke up exhausted, with a cold sheen of sweat and a telling, contented silence in the back of his head, practically brimming with self-satisfaction that churned up a cold dread in his stomach... but not this time. Yes, he had woken up underneath a tree in the park, when he should have been confined to Bastet's house... but there wasn't the sense of something being intrinsically wrong this time.

He let out a soft curse and adjusted the bandages over his injured arm, before standing.

"It's too warm," A shade of himself lounged like a cat on one of the branches of the tree, staring intently across at further islands. "It was winter." A cold golden eye swiveled quickly to look at him, the creature's lips breaking apart into a mad grin. "You think time left us?""Hallelujah," He frowned, picking up the journal carefully-- and maybe a little envious at the ease of which the hallucination swooped down from the branch, the projection bearing no matching ( ... )

The last week has been far too mad, even for the Sphere. Deaths and then arrivals right after. And Lockon. That got a special category all to itself. Predictably, Veda's response to all of this was to bury himself in work - both his job and his own side projects. And the dog had been noisy in the way he had managed to learn was 'I want out of the house'. Not for any particular reason, just 'out'. So he'd decided on a trip to the Scavenger's Yard, hoping to find some more parts for his and Barry's little experiment, and looped Veda's leash around something heavy enough that the little creature couldn't run off and get lost down here.

The Scavenger's Yard was, thankfully, the same as it had been when he had left it- people milling about for parts and bits and gizmos amongst the ever-present piles of stuff. What mostly caught his attention, though, was a very familiar yapping. And not just any yapping. But a dim, repetitive little bark, always the same pitch and tone, as though just incessant noise.

So of course, hearing Veda(dog), Raise moved quickly to shift his position, locating the yipping animal leashed to a large, rusted bit of scrap. "Veda?" Maybe he sounded a little too happy- he had been hoping that his dog had still been in the Tree-- and rather healthy looking at that.

Ignoring Hallelujah's scoff, he knelt down to pick up the dog, wriggling bit of fluff lapping at the air around him happily. "Who brought you here?" He had still yet to see Veda(meister), entirely too focused on the stupid little dog for the moment.

Veda glanced up at the sound of his name - though it became rather obvious that the newcomer was referring to the dog, rather than him. And that the newcomer was... familiar, like Locokn had been in the beginning. Not quite the same punch to the gut, but the sense of uncontrolled emotion was still there.

"You know the dog." It was a statement rather than a question, given what had just transpired in front of him. Many people knew the dog, really, but he usually knew them in return, instead of this familiar stranger.

As absolutely chaotic as things had been recently, the return of a few key individuals meant that the rollercoaster ride that was life in the Sphere at least felt like it was on the upward climb.

Despite the fact that he expected things to start the downward plummet again at any moment, Lyle actually found himself to be in a genuinely good mood. That was becoming more and more of a rare occasion, so it seemed best to take advantage of it. An aimless walk around the City Without Walls had turned into a lazy stroll around the park.

That is, until something about the figure he saw in his peripheral vision seized his attention. Stopping to turn and look at the man in the distance, it became clear that what caught his notice was, in fact, familiarity. 'Well, I'll be damned...'

Granted, the man's back was facing him--it could be a case of mistaken identity. Only one way to find out, really. Walking towards the other man, Lyle called out a casual, "Don't tell me you decided to join in on the reunion craze, too ( ... )
