'I'm...' His voice faded out for a second, which was strange. '...responsible for the genocide in this region.' And he suddenly realized, the death and destruction all around him... was because of him ( ... )

"Watch where you're going." It wasn't quite snapped, but it was definitely an order rather than a request. Then he paused, wondering... maybe this kid would be able to tell him more about what was going on. "Ah, maybe you can help me, actually... you see, I'm a little turned around." He tried to smile a touch sheepishly, as though he were embarrassed. "I'm not actually entirely sure where I am right now."

This particular one looked... even stranger than most.
"I - " he began, then closed his mouth again, unsure. Maybe this man was simply lost, and saying that he had no idea where he was either, or for the matter who he was, would make him look like a freak. But then there was the off chance that he wasn't alone in this mad situation. "The truth is I'm not sure either."

He allowed himself to look thoughtful, the smile fading into not-quite-a-frown. "I don't suppose... this sounds mad." He laughed lightly, putting a touch of embarrassment into the sound. "But... did you just... wake up here?"
Reply
He blinked at the question, staring up at the man. It seemed insane, but... "you too?" The words all but escaped him. "I thought I was mad. But - I had a weird dream, and that's all I can remember." It was even more frightening now that he out it into words like that. But he was overwhelmingly glad to discover that he was not the only one.

Personally, he didn't think he needed to confirm this by finding a third person.
He stretched his lips into a relieved smile. "Yes, that's exactly what happened to me." This was actually kind of frightening, if only in that something could do this in the first place. He didn't much like this feeling, the feeling of being utterly at the mercy of something much more powerful than he was.
Mostly because it felt so very familiar. "Well, maybe we can find someone who knows what's going on, hmmm? Oh," he hesitated, as if thinking of something--he wanted to know if this boy remembered his name, or if they were alike in that regard as well. "What did you say your name was?"

The other man may have been a stranger, but he was all he had. He stared up at him, bewildered and clearly hoping for some sort of guidance. When asked for his name, he drew in a breath, determined to find an answer for that at least. A name mattered.
"I - I don't know what it was, but - " but in his dream, there had been a woman's voice, whispering, joining hands, tender, caring, wonderful hands that brushed his shoulders and his face. She had whispered something to him, a fantastic secret. "Newtype. Call me Newtype."

"Newtype..." Actually, he hadn't yet put any thought into what to call himself. As he pondered that, a red stone flashed in his mind's eye. The stone he'd been using in the dream... the Philosopher's Stone.
It was his stone, wasn't it? So that would make him the Philosopher. It was a good a name as any. "You can call me Philosopher." He stuck out his hand, smiling hesitantly. "It's good to meet you, Newtype."

Maybe I shouldn't tell him, he thought suddenly, eyes narrowing a little as he studied the man. Maybe he's an enemy agent. His memories aren't wiped at all. Maybe he's here to - but why am I thinking about war?
It was ridiculous. He took Philosopher's hand, although his voice was a little noncommittally. "It's good to meet you too, Philosopher. Did you - " he tried to think of a way to lend his suspicions any substance. "Did you also have a weird dream?"
Reply
"Yes actually. I did." He frowned slightly, honestly troubled, then let out a light, uneasy laugh. "I'm not really sure what to make of it, but I think... I think I may have been... fighting." Downplaying it slightly. No matter who he was pretending to be right now, no one needed to know exactly what his dream had been about, or just what he'd said in it.

He frowned back at Philosopher, clearly suspicious now - he had no skill to speak of in hiding his feelings. "I remember fighting, too. I was in space, and we were fighting..." He didn't remember, of course. And it occurred to him that perhaps it was better not to say. "I don't know who. I just remember hating them."
