Well, that had certainly been an interesting night.

Part of Rick- especially after the conversation he'd had with Qi, the night they'd spent watching over Genius, Ben and Simon in the infirmary- was sort of hoping that his friends would notice how much he'd been drinking. But only part of him. That part had also dreaded the inevitable confrontation when they DID find out, obsessively going over the millions of ways it could transpire in his mind.

Mostly, though, he was content to tell himself that his problem wasn't REALLY a problem, that there were worse ways of coping with horrible things, things you knew you'd never seen, with your friends and family disappearing without warning, finding out they weren't what you thought they were...

Now he was left feeling apathy, guilt, anger, fear, and other emotions he couldn't begin to put into neat little categories like that. He wasn't sure he would ever feel happy again, not even with their support.

Sleep was an impossibility. He didn't wish to stare at the ceiling and the walls all night, but nor did he really want to talk to or even look at anybody else, especially Genius, the one person he felt like he'd let down the most. He didn't feel very worthy of being a brother right now.

Father you, though you can say brother forever if you'd like.

So he went out to the living area, intending to perhaps get a glass of water and see if there was something non-alcoholic to help him sleep, when he spotted Genius and froze in place.

"... damnit."
