Characters: getsome_sleep and andcountry
Date/Time: May 19th, mid-afternoon
Location: On the bridge to Fisher Isle
Rating: PG because I cuss in my narration.
Summary: Huo and Cephiro go and have a chat with Bernard.

------
Cephiro didn't think he should really be loitering excessively on this very heavily-damaged rope bridge. Everything about the term, "very heavily-damaged rope bridge" implied that it was a very bad idea to spend much time on it. Bridges themselves weren't even proper places, per se, so much as paths between places. If you spent time loitering on a bridge it would become a place and cease to be a bridge at all, and then where would you be? Adding to Cephiro's concerns was the fact that, at irregular intervals and always just when he had settled his chin on his folded arms and begun to contemplate the cloudy depths below him (which was indeed where he would be in the aforementioned scenario), someone started shaking the damn bridge. His head would snap up and he'd look around, but then there'd be nobody on either end. So he'd grumble like the old man he secretly was and settle back in, letting his guard down more slowly each time as the cycle repeated itself.

In between bridge-quakes and contemplation of the quintessential bridgeyness of bridges (very important), there was a rock. Cephiro had dropped it off the side of the bridge a while ago, and it was true what Above had told him before - falling things really did fall slowly and in an endless loop. It was as though what goes down must come up somehow so that it can go back down again. Or maybe what goes down must keep going down but whoever wrote the laws of physics must have forgotten to tell it what to do if it ran out of down to go, so it went and did the whole thing again because it just had so much fun the first time. He half-wondered how it wasn't constantly raining gloves, keys, gum wrappers, and other small objects that people were constantly dropping. Perhaps there was some irregularity of the Sphere that kept objects from actually falling eternally - or maybe it depended on whether or not they were being observed. That would make a lot of sense.

Perhaps he'd leave this rock here when Huo showed up. He could come back in a day or two and see if it was still falling or what.
