Summary: Talk about time travel.

Above circled the great trunk of the Tree, getting ever lower until she was close enough to make people duck, whipped by the wind of her passing. They didn't have to duck - she was well clear of any of them - but it was, she knew, an instinctual thing. Big swooping things overhead, and all.
She manipulated her wing membranes and landed on all fours atop one of the Tree's great rounded roots, within sight of the elevator. There, to pass the time, she used the tip of her enormous beak to rearrange the "necklace" she'd made, a collection of keys knotted into ten feet of bright blue rag which had been turned into something like twine, when she'd been human and suited to that kind of thing. It was wrapped many times around her neck.
There was a folded parachute on her back, a useless safety feature the Sphere had seen fit to give her. On her underside there was something like a sling that hung empty and a little awkward-looking, connected to her feet and neck.
Above hadn't told anyone much about the time travel. Partly because the time hadn't felt right. But she'd decided on a whim to talk to Key - someone she really didn't know at all - at least a little.
