Normally she would have little interest in pursuing someone who had done something of little use, and little waste. But it was getting in her way. Her gaze fell on the passing man, one she wasn't sure she'd seen before. Then again, he didn't stand out much. It was possible they'd passed here or there. Mona didn't hide the fact that she was watching him, but she watched everyone, really.

He closed his journal with a snap and continued to walk towards Mona. On the way he walked by an overflowing garbage bin. Rather than stoop to pick up the trash that was littered around, Fugue stopped and looked for another hapless Housekeeper to yell at.

"Ah. I am simply pondering if I should call someone over to get rid of this mess, that is all."
He tried to be polite, although it required a bit on his part. He was pretty frustrated and for some reason he'd been getting odd ball questions from random people all day.

"Or is there someone who owes you a favor?" He wouldn't be the first one to act superior around here. One of these days it might be justified.

That of course did not answer why he was trying to boss another department around but he was hoping this woman wouldn't notice.

"I see. I was not aware that this area was the Hatchery. Perhaps the maps are unclear, or perhaps the Hatchery has grown and I did not know. I am still somewhat new, compared to some."
Reply
"I do a great deal more than work in the Hatchery. In fact I fund a great many projects in this sphere. Including cleanup. Now if you will excuse me." He wasn't going to stand around and be mocked by old women.
Reply
"Fund. I am given to understand that there is a fair amount of expendable wealth, that many gain and gain and can take from the Wilderness and Yard as opposed to buying all of the time. So funding... does not seem like so much. Doing, however, might." A pause, and she kept herself from smirking just barely. "I do not suppose you are one who does, however. You are excused."
Reply
Oh why was he bothering with this woman?

"Are you saying you have no awareness of the Hatchery Supervisor? Captain of the Guard or the Watch? Housekeeping Supervisor, Head Scavenger--you have clearly not payed attention, Madam."
He stood to his full height. "I am Fugue, Supervisor of the Hatchery. You should at least be aware of that."
Reply
"And now I am also aware of you, Fugue. Thank you for that. I am... likely quite trivial, at this point in time. That may well eventually change. But we shall see. And I am sure you have a great many duties to... What does a Hatchery Supervisor supervise? Do you count cocoons at the end of the night? Ascertain that Lezard has enough tea?"
Reply
"How is the Supervisor of the Hatchery not worth noting? Do you not grasp that the life of our community comes from those cocoons? That they must be protected at all cost from those that would harm innocence? From the Exile?" Oh she was trivial? She was a nuisance is what she was! Unlikable, undesirable--Fugue wanted nothing more to do with her.
"I do a deal more than you shall ever know." His hands clenched into fists. " A great deal more." Was the wind suddenly a lot colder. "And far too busy to stand here talking."
He wasn't going to stomp away but there was definitely signs of pouting, of a little boy shamed and an edge close to throwing a tantrum.

Mona could see that she'd hit a nerve, with the fists and anger. The cold wind made her glance around. There was no sign of Ilyigan, which made her wonder if this Fugue had some control of the weather as well. She would make note of this with Ilyigan, later.
"You say you do more than I shall know and make no effort to enlighten me. Then you say you are too busy to be here, and yet stand still. Your words and your actions do not line up." Perhaps she was pushing a bit too much. He might storm off. But it had been quite a while since she'd engaged in teasing such as this, and she was enjoying it.
