Afternoon, Section 4 vile_queen May 12 2011, 08:20:19 UTC
That there was grafitti at all did not impress Mona. Surely things could be better attended to than this. It must be some sort of gang; the same words and phrases seemed to be repeated often. As she finished cleaning off of one building (empty, perhaps that made it more of a target) she turned her attention to the next building, this one resided in and yet still marked.

Normally she would have little interest in pursuing someone who had done something of little use, and little waste. But it was getting in her way. Her gaze fell on the passing man, one she wasn't sure she'd seen before. Then again, he didn't stand out much. It was possible they'd passed here or there. Mona didn't hide the fact that she was watching him, but she watched everyone, really.

Unlike Mona, Fugue failed to notice the redhead cleaning the building. He was eying his journal, watching several of the Housekeepers touch base with each other about recently completed projects. He watched the proceedings with some satisfaction. At least people were finally working on the problem.

He closed his journal with a snap and continued to walk towards Mona. On the way he walked by an overflowing garbage bin. Rather than stoop to pick up the trash that was littered around, Fugue stopped and looked for another hapless Housekeeper to yell at.

She watched him stop and wondered what that was about. Was he waiting for someone in particular? By a trashcan? Surely not. There were far superior locations to hold a meeting at; who would decide upon meeting at such a place? Though, given the intelligence of some here... She couldn't resist asking; there was no way indulging her curiousity here could be dangerous, Mona figured. "Do you await someone? Or do you simply like trash cans?"

Fugue looked up at the woman with a slight frown. That was a rude question wasn't it? He didn't like trash cans!

"Ah. I am simply pondering if I should call someone over to get rid of this mess, that is all."

He tried to be polite, although it required a bit on his part. He was pretty frustrated and for some reason he'd been getting odd ball questions from random people all day.

She tilted her head, a bit more curious about the frowning man. "Do you have the authority with which to call someone for such a task?" Justice did, but this man was not Justice, nor did she know of another person in charge of Housekeeping.

"Or is there someone who owes you a favor?" He wouldn't be the first one to act superior around here. One of these days it might be justified.

He stiffened at the semi accusation. "My name is Fugue," he said coldly. "I am the Hatchery Guide Supervisor."

That of course did not answer why he was trying to boss another department around but he was hoping this woman wouldn't notice.

And now Mona was a little amused. She clearly shouldn't enjoy it too much - he did have some authority - but a little prodding might not be too harmful. Though the stiffening... he might be the overly sensitive sort, the kind that threw power around to show he could. A small man. A little care was in order, but not too much.

"I see. I was not aware that this area was the Hatchery. Perhaps the maps are unclear, or perhaps the Hatchery has grown and I did not know. I am still somewhat new, compared to some."

Was she being mean sarcastic? Or honestly stupid? Fugue was willing to bet on the former. He didn't have to stand for this.

"I do a great deal more than work in the Hatchery. In fact I fund a great many projects in this sphere. Including cleanup. Now if you will excuse me." He wasn't going to stand around and be mocked by old women.

It was a shame he was running off. Mona was enjoying herself.

"Fund. I am given to understand that there is a fair amount of expendable wealth, that many gain and gain and can take from the Wilderness and Yard as opposed to buying all of the time. So funding... does not seem like so much. Doing, however, might." A pause, and she kept herself from smirking just barely. "I do not suppose you are one who does, however. You are excused."

Oh that teared it. "I assure you that not everything here is free," he grumbled. "Someone must be answerable to the various organizations here. As a leader."

Oh why was he bothering with this woman?

She tapped her lips, looking openly amused now. "And yet I have not heard any leader named. No one speaks of someone in charge. In fact, all I read on the journals appears to suggest the opposite of leadership. Any who claimed to be leader either does not have public support... or awareness." It was very, very hard to fight a smile from spreading across her face as she took a calculated pause. "Tell me. What was your name, again?" If he was smart, he would catch her implication that she had little awareness of who he was, and perhaps that was a wide-spread issue. It might aggravate him more, and she would find that very satisfying. If he wasn't... he'd miss it and she would simply have to share the joke elsewhere.

Was this woman trying to aggravate him?!

"Are you saying you have no awareness of the Hatchery Supervisor? Captain of the Guard or the Watch? Housekeeping Supervisor, Head Scavenger--you have clearly not payed attention, Madam."

He stood to his full height. "I am Fugue, Supervisor of the Hatchery. You should at least be aware of that."

She saw him drawing himself up and responded only by raising an eyebrow. "Captain of the Guard, Bastet. Captain of the Watch, Vimes. Housekeeping, Justice. Scavenging, I believe, is Target and Kiba jointly. I have paid attention to those who were worth noting." This was too much fun. Sure, it might come back to haunt her if she ever had to work with this Fugue, but maybe she could get away with it.

"And now I am also aware of you, Fugue. Thank you for that. I am... likely quite trivial, at this point in time. That may well eventually change. But we shall see. And I am sure you have a great many duties to... What does a Hatchery Supervisor supervise? Do you count cocoons at the end of the night? Ascertain that Lezard has enough tea?"

"Worth noting?" How dare this strange woman insult him by saying he wasn't worth noting. Sure he'd been absent for a while but he was still Fugue. He was furious.

"How is the Supervisor of the Hatchery not worth noting? Do you not grasp that the life of our community comes from those cocoons? That they must be protected at all cost from those that would harm innocence? From the Exile?" Oh she was trivial? She was a nuisance is what she was! Unlikable, undesirable--Fugue wanted nothing more to do with her.

"I do a deal more than you shall ever know." His hands clenched into fists. " A great deal more." Was the wind suddenly a lot colder. "And far too busy to stand here talking."

He wasn't going to stomp away but there was definitely signs of pouting, of a little boy shamed and an edge close to throwing a tantrum.

"Harm innocence? So you believe that those who emerge are innocent, or simply that they deserve to be protected as they adapt to the setting?"

Mona could see that she'd hit a nerve, with the fists and anger. The cold wind made her glance around. There was no sign of Ilyigan, which made her wonder if this Fugue had some control of the weather as well. She would make note of this with Ilyigan, later.

"You say you do more than I shall know and make no effort to enlighten me. Then you say you are too busy to be here, and yet stand still. Your words and your actions do not line up." Perhaps she was pushing a bit too much. He might storm off. But it had been quite a while since she'd engaged in teasing such as this, and she was enjoying it.
