29 April, day, Wellspring lingeringlegacy April 29 2011, 06:14:39 UTC
Lab coat on and tablet PC in hand, Stellaris was walking down a hallway towards the staff room when she saw a familiar redhead passing. A pleasant coincidence; she had intended to make a stop at Smoke's after work today. A confirmation whether the product she was looking for was available would be handy. She caught up with Kagerou and cheerfully greeted the girl, "Hello, Kagerou. Do you have a moment to spare?"

"Oh, hello!" Kagerou had been tasked with organising supply closets on account of it being a not particularly busy day, and she'd just been on her way to the next one. Her long hair was braided tightly down her back, as it was whenever she was on shift at Medical.

"I suppose I do. I have some tidying up to do, but it can wait a bit. Um, can I help you?"

"Does the bar have Irish Cream? Or Irish Whiskey, though in that case I need to get more ingredients..." After making the query, Stellaris' tone trailed, but one can still heard the enthusiasm in her voice.

"I think so." Her brows knit as she tried to summon up a mental tally of the bar's current supply. It changed rather a lot, as they had to rely on raiding Wildernesses for pretty much anything but the ale and cider that the Farm could provide. "I'll check for you when I get in today, all right?"

She canted her head, smiling a little at her fellow medic. "You sound like you need it for something specific, right?"

"Thank you. I plan to stop by this evening after my Housekeeping shift." Stellaris' eyes widened a little at the question. "Would wanting to try out a pie recipe count as something specific?"

"Well, if you just wanted a shot of Irish Cream, you could just come to the bar and have one. So I thought you had something else in mind." Kagerou clasped her hands behind her back. Her smile grew a little broader. "And I suppose there was a twinkle in your eyes when you talked about that."

"Ah, I rarely go to the bar, so I don't have much knowledge of your selection... and what better place there is to look for a liquor?" Stellaris said with a dismissive handwave. She blinked a few times when Kagerou suddenly seemed excited. "A... twinkle? What do you mean by that?"

"The Farm, if you're feeling adventurous." Kagerou chuckled. It wasn't a fact she'd have been privy to had she not managed the bar. The story went that there was a farm worker or two brewing their own selection of hard spirits on the sly, but she had never confirmed the truth of it.

Was Stellaris blushing? She did seem a tad flustered. "That you had a glimmer in your eye? You know, like you were planning something."

"So they brew as well in the Farm?" And here she was thinking the Farm was only responsible for food crops. She never really paid close attention to those kinds of industry. Perhaps she could ask Huo about it-after he recovered from the sour mood brought by lack of sleep. "But if the bar has it, shopping adventures aren't needed, I suppose."

She paused for a while. Kagerou's behaviour is strange. "I'm planning on baking an Irish cream pie this weekend... but it seems to me you are insinuating something else?"

A snort was heard from their right. Stellaris glanced quickly to find a male intern passing them by, pushing a cart and obviously trying not to grin. This was decidedly strange.

Now, Kagerou counted Stellaris as a good co-worker and a casual friend. They didn't speak very often, but that didn't mean Kagerou was above a bit of teasing when she spotted an opening.

"I might be suggesting that you're not just baking for the fun of it. That you have something--or someone--in mind, you know?"

"Well, I do find baking fun, but naturally the result is also meant to be eaten..." Really, what was Kagerou finding so amusing? Or... wait. Someone? Irish.

"Oh!" Stellaris chuckled briefly. While not as easy to fluster as she was, her complexion still made it easy to spot even a faint blush. "Do you mean to point that someone specific is an Irishman?" She didn't remember telling Kagerou she and Lyle were romantically involved, but it wasn't a secret either. One could always guess by being attentive in the journals or seeing them together in various locations.

Kagerou had not precisely guessed who Stellaris had in mind. She might have made a small mental note or two, having seen her and Lyle together at the Planetarium's opening, but really, she mostly been teasing. That the teasing had led her somewhere was a different matter.

"Or that someone specific really likes Irish cream pie?" She chuckled. "It's all right, I was just joking! Or is there a certain Irishman, then? Oh, but that's nice, that you've found someone. Or have you? I didn't mean--" She waved her hands in a warding gesture.

If her relationship status had been confidential, Stellaris had just been unintentionally tricked into spilling the information. However, it wasn't, so she only felt a bit sheepish when Kagerou's gesture indicated the girl didn't actually know.

"Oh, I suppose there's no need to be evasive. Yes, I am 'seeing' a certain Irishman. I believe you know him too." Her thoughts strayed a little, pondering on how there seems to be no exact word in English to describe being romantically involved with someone. "Um, aren't you supposed to do some tidying up? I can help you while we talk, if you want."

"Is it Lyle?" Kagerou raised an eyebrow in sincere curiosity. She hadn't known his nationality, but had noticed he and Stellaris spent quite a bit of time together. "I've met him a couple of times, yes. He does seem very nice, if a bit reserved."

She smiled, to show she did not consider this a fault. Besides, both their meetings had taken place in unusually sombre circumstances, so for all she knew, Lyle could be quite open and easygoing at less strained times.

"I was! I am. I suppose I did get sidetracked. It's not far. Let's go." She gestured down the hall, then for Stellaris to follow her.

Stellaris followed half a step behind Kagerou. The end of her shift was close and she had no other medic tasks left, so a little detour and chat would not be bad.

"Mm. He is very nice." A nod accompanied the taller woman's affirmation. Reserved was not a word she would immediately think of ascribing to Lyle, but now that Kagerou mentioned it, she could recall situations where the adjective was suitable. "And what about you, Kagerou? Did the date experiment with Toushi go well?"

Kagerou dug out the key she'd been given for the task, and unlocked the door into the supply room. Stellaris's question caught her half by surprise, and she almost fumbled the key from her hand. The door creaked open, though, and she masked the worst of her sudden befuddlement into tucking the key back in her pocket.

"Umm... It didn't really go just yet," she said a little softly. "I'm still mulling it over."

Well, that wasn't quite true. It was just that something in the idea made butterflies fill her stomach and her toes curl with a tingly feeling she could not quite decide if she liked. And the thought of that date was a little sour now, given how her recruitment attempt had turned out.

"That is, I have decided." She went to a pile of lab coats that had been thrown over a chair and picked up the first one to fold it properly. "There's just been... stuff. I've been a little busy. And..."
