------
The odd, coarsely-fibered surface was a far cry from his linen bedding, but by this point he'd grown accustomed to waking outside his bed. And his home, for that matter. Previously it had been a gust of wind or rain, or more often than not the words of a fellow watchman to wake him... finding himself draped against a cocoon was a gentle rouse in comparison.

That's right... it was Monday when he went to sleep, and Tuesday he was to keep station at the hall of beginnings for any newcomers. And, just like the other times, he'd given himself a many-hour head start on his shift. Reed blearily blinked the exhaustion from his eyes, glancing down the length of his body as it rested against the cocoon... at least he dressed himself properly this time. He rose, the fog of fatigue rising as his senses slowly cleared.

And so, too- it seemed- did a spot within the Chamber of Beginnings.

It took him another few seconds before he realized his eyes weren't deceiving him; even where he'd slung himself sleepwalking, he rose to face an odd clearing in the forest of cocoons... the cocoons were hardly meticulous in their placement, so all the more strange that he'd take note of such a thing for the first time since he'd assumed the position of greeter. Frisking himself for his journal- and finding it narrowly tucked by a corner into his coat pocket- he thumbed hurriedly through the pages for news.

It had been four days since the last birth... would that not have been enough time for a cocoon to regrow?

It was a mystery he'd ponder later. After all, he thought as he tucked the journal beneath his arm and made for the door, the lack of a good night's sleep was probably getting to his head... and that was a problem he could hope to solve.
