Also afternoon, open to anyone blue_shields November 26 2010, 19:49:47 UTC
Sky wasn't sure if he should be relieved that the idea of a Watch calendar had fallen through or annoyed that they'd stooped to selling baked goods, of all things, to raise funds.

Then again, another part of his mind argued, there were worse alternatives. And it WAS for a good cause, to help out the team and give them a solid place to gather if they needed it.

So Sky had found himself volunteering to protect their profits for a while, wanting to contribute SOMETHING, as he had little knowledge of how to cook decently. He sat with the box of coins, looking bored, but on the inside he was highly-alert, one hand diving into his coat pocket to make sure his badge was still there every now and then. A very cynical, suspicious part of him would not put it past someone to try and start trouble, even at a harmless event like this.

As promised, Book had stopped by the stall, and was currently inspecting some of the more decent looking goodies. After picking a few, he dropped his money into the coin box by Sky. "Hey. Are you keeping track of who buys what? Just in case, I bought 3 cupcakes and about 4 cookies."

Sky smiled at the unknown man, shaking his head.

"As far as I know, we're not- but thank you for your support. I hope you were able to find something remotely edible."

"Alright. Well, my name's Book, and I promised one of the Watchmen I'd stop by. I did find something edible, though, so it was worth it." He smiled back, and nodded. "You're welcome."

"I'm Sky," Sky replied, nodding back, then paused, thinking. "Book- you were born with Gai, weren't you?"

After Book? notpissedoff November 28 2010, 00:59:51 UTC
Most of the food looked too sweet for Rain's tastes, particularly the various frosted items, but since the funds raised were going to the Watch he figured he could spare a bit of change. He picked out a few cookies that looked relatively edible and made his way over to where Sky sat, noticing that the man seemed somewhat bored (and Rain couldn't blame him).

He tossed his coins into the box with a nod to Sky. "I trust the food didn't mysteriously appear here, this time." At least it wasn't shaped like people.

Works for me! blue_shields November 28 2010, 01:34:06 UTC
Sky returned Rain's nod and smirked at that.

"It was all handmade by various volunteers," he said. "The only mysterious thing is finding out what actually tastes like it's supposed to and what doesn't. I didn't even try cooking anything, myself; I know I'm out of my league."

"I don't think I know what they're supposed to taste like," Rain replied with a slight shrug. He took a bite of one of the cookies, chewing thoughtfully. "...These ones aren't bad."

He turned and gazed out at the tables set up around them. "It must have taken a fair amount of everyone's free time to prepare this." He looked back at Sky. "Do you expect it will raise a sufficient amount?"

Sky smirked at that. "That's good. I've seen a lot of things that look either burnt or undercooked..."

He then sighed.

"I'm not sure if it will raise EVERYTHING we need, but every little bit helps. And to be honest, I prefer this to the idea of making a calendar featuring the Watch members." He rolled his eyes. "I don't mind posing for pictures so much, but I'm not sure if I would be expected to do so with my shirt on or not."

Rain nodded once. "I prefer this, as well. Calendars are far more useful, but I'd rather not have one that contains pictures of acquaintances in various states of undress." He couldn't imagine that being anything but awkward.

"It might still be worth considering, if you don't raise enough here." He smirked slightly. "Just don't expect me to buy one."

Sky laughed aloud at that.

"We'd accept a donation as well, in that case. I wouldn't particularly want to have my body plastered all across one in ANY state of undress, anyway. If they let me pose in my unform, that's one thing. And that would actually fit the theme of a Watch calendar. Then again, I'm not sure how well something like that would sell." He shrugged. "I'm sure we'd have several willing volunteers for anything more, though."

"Mm. I'll keep that option in mind. But there does appear to be a lot of support for the idea," Rain acknowledged. He took another bite of the cookie - it was actually quite good. He must have lucked out.

"Did you volunteer for this, then?" He motioned to the coin box with a tilt of his chin. Sky hadn't appeared very stimulated by the task of sitting here and guarding the money, to say the least.

"Yeah," Sky sighed. "Maybe I can volunteer to be the photographer instead. Someone DOES have to hold the camera, after all."

He then nodded.

"It's a harmless bake sale, it's to benefit the Watch, but I honestly wouldn't put it past someone to try and either steal our money, start trouble, or both. Some residents weren't happy with the idea of the Watch when it formed, to say the least."

"Aa." Rain nodded in agreement. The Watch had been here for longer than he had, so it was an easy thing for him to take for granted, but of course it hadn't always existed. "Any time a new system of keeping order is introduced, there are bound to be dissidents." That's just the way things worked.

"In that case," he added after a moment, "I'll stop distracting you from your duties." He bowed slightly in parting.
