Another day, another shift at the Clinic.

Simon had a lot on his mind- Serenity at the forefront, of course. Even after talking with some of his loved ones about it, he still wasn't sure how he felt about her, what they had meant to one another. He knew he COULDN'T be sure until one of them got a memory telling them so. But that didn't stop him thinking about it...

Walking into the clinic, he smiled at all the patients, then saw Kurayami sitting up on her bed, looking a little forlorn.

"You'd be perfectly fine going outside a while, you know," he told her gently, moving to check her bandage.

She glanced up at the sound of footsteps. A young man was strolling through the clinic, smiling at the people in the beds. Most of the ones who were awake smiled back. He had a nice smile, if a little reserved.

As if she had any excuse to sniff at somebody's reserve, Kurayami thought to herself, faintly amused. Almost at the moment she thought that, the man reached her bed and paused, rather than walking by...then stopped to check her head injury.

So he was a doctor. That explained how the folks here knew him. Kurayami quietly tilted her head, to give him better access. "I know," she agreed, noncommittally, looking up at the ceiling and determined not to flinch. After a moment, she added, "Has the storm let up?"

Her bandage didn't seem to need changing, so Simon let it go.

"Not as far as I know," he said, thinking back on his conversation with Inara the previous day, wondering what state the tree was going to be in when they were finally allowed back up there. "So if you feel up to it, you may as well enjoy your time down here while you can. Even if it is just stepping outside for a few minutes for some fresh air."

She couldn't keep her smile from twitching up wryly on one side. "You know, one look at those windows is enough to tell me it's a beautiful day outside," she admitted, "but I still don't feel like a walk. The Wilderness wasn't exactly a paradise the last time I was here."

She shrugged, feeling sheepish. "It's not really a logical thing, but..."
