Rain was perceptive, and he caught Chivalry's brief pause. An uncomfortable subject for the man, possibly... but if it was, he had only himself to blame for bringing it up in the first place. No sympathy here.

"True," Rain conceded. "Many people have other means by which to defend themselves." Magic or other unnatural-seeming abilities. But for the rest of the populace there was sharpened steel, and Rain preferred that any day.

Dressed and somewhat drier than he had been, Rain likewise sat down on his bunk and began to unpack what little else he'd brought, only to stop and cast Chivalry a sidelong glance through narrowed eyes at the question. Getting a bit personal now, aren't you?

If it had been from a memory or a dream, Rain wouldn't have said so. He wouldn't have said anything, in fact; simply ignored the question. He discussed the contents of those with absolutely no one. (Well, except Lin that one time, but that didn't count. She'd thought he was someone else.) But as that wasn't the case, he answered the other man, albeit in a slightly more clipped tone of voice.

"No. It was due to an occurrence here. People were forced into groups of a 'master' and one or more 'apprentices'. My master instructed me in swordfighting, and I found it familiar."

Rain turned away again and went back to unpacking, hoping that the books hadn't gotten too wet and that the questions didn't get any more prying.

"Magic?" He snorted at that. The idea seemed ludicrous, but Chivalry didn't fully deny its possibility. "I wouldn't be surprised with this shitty-place, though."

Oh? What had that been that look? A private man, obviously. Chivalry mentally shrugged it off. Others had no qualms telling him small details about themselves here and there and it had only made sense at the time, since everyone here had been in the same shitty-position. Whatever information could be gleamed from others was an advantage for all, at least in his mind. Still, he wouldn't force this man to tell him his secrets if Rain didn't feel like it.

He kept his tone nonchalant. "Ah...is that so? Hmm...This world seems eager to put us into shitty-situations I've noticed." That were strangely beneficial at times, he thought.

"Well...Not like it matters anyway, I'm sure we'll figure something out about it in time." He waved it off and picked up one of his books quite content to end the conversation there.
