To say Spade had been indulging in his more hermit-like tendencies over the past couple of weeks would be an understatement. After receiving word that the Old Man had made his comeback, it only made sense to pull back the risks and hole up for a time. That, and the temptation to plunge a hand right through the man's ribs and crush his still-beating heart might be all too tempting if Spade made it a habit to tromp about the upper levels of the Sphere. A too wide, inhuman grin played across his face as he reveled in the thought of that. Oh, it would be fun and all too gratifying. Still, after the Fugue's recent death, the Tree was likely to be in high alert for attacks, even if Fugue was not. Better to bide one's time and try finding a method that might actually stick.

Despite keeping to his hidey hole in the Yard, it was hard to ignore the recent tension that had settled among those members of the Sphere that he had observed here below. Creased brows and pinched features paired with a pervasive air of unease. It seemed something was getting under the skin of the general populace. It would probably help to figure out just what it was.

Spade slouched against a little alcove dug out of a solid wall of junk and flicked open his journal in order to scan the most r. The spot was not a hiding place per se, but it had just enough factors in its favor that no one would see him unless they were expressly looking for him.
