This was war.

His dream ended in a flash of static. He opened his eyes to find himself in a familiar liquid, warm and safe. With a blink, his hearing seemed to start up all over again, and there was some kind of ticking. Ticking, like the perfect beat and rhythm of a timeless clock. That... was his mind, wasn't it? Another blink, and there was a short flash of seeing the other from his dream. Laughing. Mocking. He felt a heated anger burning through his blood -never mind that he didn't remember anything else- before thrusting his hand through that shell surrounding him.

The cold air tickled his slimy hand, and he paused for a moment before sort of hammering through the syrupy shell that had begun to give way around him. And then there he was--a lanky guy with long raven-black hair and gold eyes.

The telltale shloop of a birth brought him out of his reverie with a start. Setting down his coffee cup and gathering the supplies into his arms, he rose out of the chair.

He had a look around to find the newborn among the forest of cocoons, but what he found was extremely familiar: The lanky gent with the black hair and gold eyes was the one he called everyone to shoot at during that laser tag event, wasn't he?

Having never seen much of the older Fugue since he himself was born, Gungnir couldn't quite make the connection. Such a prodigy, and yet so dense.

The mage handed the reborn hatchling a towel. "That's a first; people tend to tumble ass-over-tea-kettle out of these things, but you emerged with some form of dignity. Welcome to Edensphere."

He took the towel with a slight nod and quickly began to remove glops of the goopy substance. While doing so, his gaze wandered to study the familiar white room before he turned to focus on the guide.

There was something about this man that annoyed the newborn, but he wasn't exactly sure of what. Having studied the guide enough to (hopefully) identify him, Fugue rubbed his temples and said, "Ah, yes. Edensphere. Thank you, Gungnir." After the slightest pause, he added, "...that is your name, correct?"

Then he stood and continued to towel down the rest of his body; looks like he'd had enough practice to get most of that sticky junk off in record time. Having finished, he turned toward Gungnir and waited expectantly for his clothing.

"That's correct. Well then, everything wasn't completely erased, now was it?"

Damn, he could towel. Almost like it was just.. routine. Either way, he handed the man his clothing with a chuckle, and took a moment to adjust the position of his glasses.

"It must be terribly rude of me to have you remember my name, but have the mind slip on yours. On that note, could there possibly be anything I need to tell you: Jobs, housing, anything you've forgotten?"

Hm, he'd never really guided one that had been reborn before. What was forgotten and what was remembered, he wondered?

Hn, he'd gotten the man's name correct--he might not be as lucky later on. Still, wasn't it that the guides... worked for him? He was pretty sure of that much ( ... )

"Ah, that's right, that's right. You're just full of surprises, aren't you?" He mused. He mainly recalled the elderly man, and didn't see the true form too often.

"Well, you have your job intact - being my boss and all - so your home and everything else is where it should be," he said, going back for his coffee mug.

He did return to offer the money, map, and journal, however. "I haven't an idea how long you've been gone, but there might have been some changes to the map during that period of time."

"Thank you." It was all he really could offer in return for Gungnir's proper job performance. Maybe he'd give him a raise or something, though the man was probably well off considering... considering... ah, whatever. He'd figure out that train of thought later.

Taking the other items from the other man, he decided to inspect the map right then and there. "Hn, really? It seems as everything is in its appropriate place... What's different about the map?"

Thinking about it a little bit, he really didn't need the money. He'd probably put that back later...

"Ah, then you probably haven't been gone long. Never you mind, Fugue."

The mage then snapped his fingers, remembering a little tidbit. "Right! There have been major heat waves coming and going, not to mention something called 'water balloons' raining from the sky on occasion. I suggest taking the time to purchase or borrow an umbrella, and to dress lightly for the time being to beat the heat. The Wilderness has become a place called a 'water park', so you have an alternative to beating the heat there, too. I highly recommend it."
