Ah, and here was the first, another series of sloshing sounding amid the forest of cocoons to his right. Lezard nodded to Idun, who gently set the dozy calico upon the table and grabbed another couple of towels.

The first hatchling inquired as to a towel upon retching up a lungful of goop, and his request was granted. "You may. Welcome to Edensphere, and happy birthday," he replied.

"Happy birthday," Idun replied with a smile to the second hatchling, politely looking away as he hurriedly covered himself up. The first towel was offered to him, positioned to obscure and protect his decency while she took it upon herself with a second to un-goop and dry his hair.

"I'm sure you have many questions. Fortunately, it is my job to answer them and lead you on your way. To begin, that dream holds important clues as to who the two of you once were. I hope they were... enlightening," Lezard said, turning his back on them and returning to his table of tea and supplies.

"My name is Lezard Valeth, and you would both do well not to forget it. My lovely assistant here is called Idun. Come, let us partake of the tea she so graciously prepared for the three of us, and I'll fill those unfortunately empty heads of yours." He gave only a short, curt bow upon introduction, but had a rather insufferable grin all the while. He had a seat, rubbing his chin for the moment, then snapped his fingers.

"Ah, yes... your names. Until you remember them, you'll have to invent one for the time being, I'm afraid. What might you two call yourselves?"

I should have tracked this, sorry. *facepalms* memoriesclouded March 18 2010, 02:23:25 UTC
"I--" He only just noticed the woman, blue eyes widening as he hastily snatched the towel. "Um...sorry." As he bent his head forward, working on getting the substance off himself, he frowned in thought as the words sunk in.

"Not really," he admitted. "I guess even if I explained it, it wouldn't make much sense." His gaze flickered away.

Lezard and Idun. The first name--he could vaguely place it as hearing it before. A shake of his head banished the thought. "My name?"

"How long are you gonna lie there, Spike?”

"You’re the proof I existed, remember? My living legacy."

It's not Spike. That didn't sound right. More like a nickname or something.

"Legacy," he said softly. Because...I suppose that's what I am. Legacy of what, I'll figure that out later.

What was this? A facility--some kind of hospital? Couldn't be for curing people, when he was perfectly healthy--research? Then where were the guards, why wasn't he being shoved back into another pod, why was this woman--

...Oh hey, that's actually kind of nice.

But back to the matter at hand. The other man was speaking, and he began really listening when he mentioned the dream. "How'd you know I had a dream?" He asked, mildly suspicious, if only because of that grin. "And what do you mean, empty head?" He was mildly offended, he was sure he knew...

Knew...

...Well, crap.

Right, so maybe this Lezard should be listened to attentively. As for a name--"I think I'll call myself Geoff," He said with a nod. He liked that name, it sounded good and sensible.

"It's a pleasure to meet you both, Legacy and Geoff," he replied curtly, vaguely glancing over his shoulder to summon his cup of tea to him, the object moving of its own volition into his hand for a drink.

From the table he sought two stacks of clothing, a simple tunic, pants, a coat and standard undergarments, offering them to the hatchlings to dress themselves before continuing. "You now reside in Edensphere, a world consisting of a giant tree surrounded by a glass sphere. For whatever reason, we are taken from our home worlds and stripped of our memories, forced to live peaceful lives here."

"...As you can well imagine, some do not take kindly to a forced peace. No place is ever completely safe." A careless shrug, and another drink as he pondered.

"'Tis not permanent, fortunately: If you keep your eyes open, you'll find ways to regain your lost memories. Things may seem familiar, may ring bells in your head as you see folks you may have once called 'friend', 'lover', what have you. You might find that they have strayed from their usual path, or may have found new connections. Despite this ... this 'utopia', this world is quite unfortunate. Mmm, but I digress."

He now set his mug down, arranging more items for the two of them: A book bound in leather of a color of their fancy, a rolled-up parchment, and a small silk pouch for each of them.

"I've a map for each of you to make your way, some starting coin to feed yourselves - don't eat the coins, for Hel's sake, I'm the Head Medic and some idiots come in daily complaining of stomachaches - and your journal. Your journal is a unique method of communication, as anything you write appears in the pages of everyone else's. We do have the occasional gossip, however, so I would suggest keeping private matters off the pages," Lezard prattled on.

"Any questions?"

Geoff, was it? His gaze flickered towards the other man before being directed back to their...greeter. He took--or rather, snatched--the clothing, yanking them on as quickly as possible. "Thank you," he muttered softly.

Not really.

"Well..." He nodded and took the other proffered items (eating coins...no comment on that), examining the journal with a quick glance. "Has anyone ever fully regained their memories in this place?" Eyes narrowed as his mind turned the dream over in his mind. "Because, frankly, I don't find any of this reassuring."

Forced to live peaceful lives? Sounded too perfect. Something told him that he wasn't suited to such a life.

He stared down at his hands, fingers curling to trace the calluses there.

"So this is it." He was just...here. On his own. Free to wander. There was an explicable tight feeling inside him. "I--" he paused. "Never mind."

Geoff took the offered clothes with only slightly less speed than his sibling. "Thanks," he said, and when they were all on, he bowed to the maid--Idun--clasping her hand. "And thank you."

He listened to Lezard with interest--the memory loss thing wasn't permanent, that was good to hear. Likewise, if it was peaceful, that was also good--something deep within him felt relief at that, too. Hm, interesting.

He almost laughed when he asked if he had questions. "Tons! First--" Geoff pointed at the teacup, "How'd you get that to roll into your hand? Secondly, about this place--this Edensphere--who's in charge here? How does it function? Is it self-sustaining? And what's unfortunate about it? Third..." He turned his attention to the rows of cocoons, carefully picking his way through the spreading puddle of ooze to stand next to them, studying them. "These--pod things." Geoff reached out and touched one quickly and lightly, drawing his hand away right afterwards; when it did not give under the contact he tried again, then again, until he was carefully stroking it. "What are these things--and what's used to make them? From here it feels like--like eggshell and wood, but it gives like wet sand from the other side..."

He gave Legacy an interested, inquisitive look at the other man's words. He looked quite young, too--well, not that Geoff knew how old he was, but he still thought Legacy much younger than he. "What is it?" He asked, doing his best to sound encouraging.

I-I have no idea if comments are supposed to go in a cycle. If I'm overstepping myself let me know. memoriesclouded March 19 2010, 21:10:27 UTC
He blinked at the flood of enthusiastic questions--questions that he wouldn't even have begun to think about.

"Ah," Rather taken aback at the sentence directed to him, he shifted, fingers going to back of his head to tangle in his hair. "It really isn't anything. Just wondering...if it's possible to go back." Now that he thought it, it was silly question to ask. If people were able to go back, it would defeat the entire point of being placed here. "It isn't, right?"

Idun blinked owlishly at Geoff in response, her face growing pink as she gently smiled and pat his hand. "I-- you're welcome, sir!"

"We've yet to have anyone regain all of their memories. The cup obeyed because of my vast magical genius," Lezard chuckled, grinning shamelessly. Then came the hail of questions, causing the guide to pause and consider them. He was quiet - a rarity for him - and removed his glasses to wipe the lenses.

"If you seek a 'leader' to this little utopia, you will not find one. If there was a head to everything, he or she has been quite secretive. Clever minds still seek to solve the puzzle of how Edensphere works, but few answers have been found... it is also quite self-sustaining, if a bit interestingly so - ask too many questions, and you will perish, simple as that." Even Lezard glanced around, lowering his voice at that. Hmm.

"Which I believe also answers your fifth question." Huh. What about the cocoons? He had to stop and rub his chin at that.

"...Hmm, I did say it was an unfortunate little paradise, isn't it? There is always a catch. When the two of you are prepared, I will send a guard to escort you to your temporary housing, and he will inform you of how to obtain a job where to start looking." The bespectacled man found himself poking at an intact cocoon.

"Now that you mention it, I've never seen any new cocoons being fabricated or carried in. They're simply... here. When people perish, they find themselves emerging out of one of these cocoons once more. Perhaps I shall take some of the slime and give it a further examination..."

Off in his own little world, wasn't he?
