Iris could scarcely believe she'd been so careless. She arrived at The Hall of Beginnings perfectly on time. She was on time, and thoroughly pleased with herself. She got all the way to her post before she realized her mistake -- she had grabbed every single item intended for a newborn, but that was just the problem. Only one!
She had scurried back to the supply area as fast as possible to gather another set. Towel, clothes, journal, map... She had it all. She was sure of it. But her luck had been so fickle, she counted out all of it again. Yes, she had everything. Okay. Calm down - just walk back, and everything will be fine.
She arrived back at her post and breathed a sigh of relief - no confused newborns waiting for her. She tucked up the first newborn bundle under right arm, adjusted the second bundle under her left arm, and she waited. She would be completely prepared this time. She would not fail.
... Except if it was a man. Her knees locked at the thought.
