Youth got a ridiculously abrupt start to the game, being half-woken up by Bell coming in to snuggle, again, and then having the last of his grogginess vanish with the other man.

Now that he was awake and aware, the idea of the game sounded fun. He got to run around chasing people, getting exercise. What better way to spend a day was there?

Happily, Youth set off looking for robbers that wanted to play.

After seeing several panicked journal entries about what happened to the 'robbers', Fred had been running around most of the day, avoiding being tagged by 'cops.' She wasn't sure if she was amused or annoyed by the whole thing, but either way she wasn't about to be caught, not if she could help it. With that attitude she had little choice but to run whenever she saw someone with a cop hat approaching.

She was currently hiding behind a large, rather nice couch, getting her breath back after running away from some cop she hadn't recognized on Captain Planet island. Peering over the top carefully, she spotted a very familiar figure with black hair.

"Botheration!" She sank back down behind the couch and tried to think of a plan. Maybe he hadn't noticed her... but she couldn't depend on that. She fiddled with her mask, trying to adjust it (when it still refused to move she stopped), and shifted slightly in her crouched position, so that she would be ready to run if Youth gave any indication he had seen her.

He saw someone duck down and mentally ran through the list of who the top of the head could be. After a moment he knew who it was. Youth stopped moving closer. It would only be sporting to give her a headstart.

"Fred! Are you a robber? We should play! I will give you time to get ahead if you would like!" He might not be sure yet of what all he could do, but Youth knew he was fast. Very fast.

Fred felt a brief flash of irritation--he had spotted her, she hadn't ducked down quickly enough. Bad luck...

She straightened up. There was little point in hiding behind a couch after being seen by the 'enemy'; that would only give Youth an advantage over her. Really, she was fortunate that he had given her warning instead of just sneaking up to the couch and sending her to the jail others had written about in the journals.

She gave him a smile (a genuine one, even) and tapped the mask over her eyes. "I would appear to be a robber, yes. A head start would be nice..." She glanced over her shoulder, picked a clear path, and started to run. No sense in letting his generosity go to waste.

This would almost be fun, if running from people intent on catching her was not horribly familiar.

Youth waved as she stood, smiling back. He wasn't sure why the game was happening, but nothing happened to the people who got caught other than Jail, so it seemed like harmless fun. The mask would have been confirmation eve if she hadn't confirmed it verbally.

"Then you will have a headstart!" Youth started doing pushups, counting up to fifty so that she would have a decent one. She should have just as much fun with this as he was.

When they were complete, Youth pushed himself up, dusted off his hands, and looked at the path she'd taken. "I am now chasing!" he called. Then he set off in a sprint after Fred. After all, he didn't want someone else to catch her. This was his chase.

Fred's footsteps faltered slightly when she saw he was not immediately giving chase, but then she saw he was giving her a proper head start. Fine, she could work with this...

Almost unconsciously, her feet had taken her north, toward that unnamed island with the lighthouse. Maybe she could hide in one of the caves... though that idea gave her a bit of a chill. She had no idea what could be lurking in them or where they led... but having a sketchy, possibly bad plan was better than no plan at all.

She heard his yell and tried to increase her speed, but she had been running for most of the day without any real breaks. She felt her breath catch in her throat; her hearts were pounding hard and her muscles burned. She needed a break, soon... and some food would be nice. But she kept running. He was going to catch her fair and square if he caught her at all, and she was not about to give into her body's demand for rest until either he gave up, she got away, or he captured her.

It was probably to his advantage that she hadn't stopped to hide, that she was still running. He could follow her. He didn't have to worry about searching or circling.

Pursuing seemed oddly natural. This wasn't pushing him but it was still fun. As Youth gained on Fred, he noted that she was breathing very hard indeed. Maybe this hadn't been a good idea after all, though she'd had the option of not running.

"Fred! Did you need to stop? I can wait!" He should have thought of this. Sure, Bell was able to keep up with him, and Crow seemed capable, as did Seren, Handmaiden, Stoneface, and a few others. But there were many who weren't fit in the way he was, and Fred was one of them.

If Fred hadn't been busy trying to catch her breath, she would have been somewhat indignant. If he had spotted her when she was still fresh, she would have done a bit better... but she wasn't made to run constantly for several hours with only a few short pauses in between sprinting sessions.

She glared over her shoulder at him, then slowed to a stop. "Bloody... " She leaned over slightly to put her hands on her knees, trying to regain her breath faster. "I... I suppose... that means... you won this game."

If she was going to be popped into some sort of jail by way of a transporter or... something... it might not be that bad. She would be able to sit down for more than five minutes at a time; if nothing else, that would be nice.

Youth caught up, a slightly amused look on his face at the glare. "In the future, when you are running, looking over your shoulder will slow you down. I run every morning! You could start coming to run with me!"

He considered her for a moment. "Yes, but you were already tired, I think. Would you like me to wait before sending you to jail, or are you ready to go? It is startling, but Bell did not complain about it hurting, and he would have. And then blamed me."

Standing close, Youth kept an eye out. Fred was his find, and if there was a score, he was catching her.

Fred nodded; it was good advice. "I will bear that in mind... and running every morning... is rather a good idea. Perhaps... I should take you up on your offer." Aside from the rather obvious evidence that she was sadly out of shape, the idea of running for the sake of running appealed to her.

She took one hand off her knee and waved it around in the air a bit. "Oh, may as well send me now. I am tired, and so long as it does not hurt..." But somehow she wasn't worried about it hurting. She was a bit nervous that it might make her dizzy and nauseous--though just why she thought that it would she couldn't say--but she would deal with that, if it even happened, once she had arrived in the jail.

"Splendid! I begin at my house every morning at five-thirty! But I warm up first so I normally start the run at six! You are very welcome to come!" The thought of company for the run was pleasant. She probably couldn't join up for all of the running, but some company for part of it would be a change.

Youth nodded at the answer. "Rest well, Fred! Perhaps we will play again when you are recovered!" He reached over and touched her shoulder, this time not surprised or upset when someone vanished.

Sometime after Fred-capture ensues. Probably also after the talk with Crow? grab_my_bells January 26 2010, 05:22:02 UTC
Bell wasn't sure he wanted to play, but he was fine with hanging out and not going poof again. The start of the game hadn't been a fun one, and Bell was still not sure about a game of cops and robbers that didn't involve some touching and use of handcuffs, but...staying at home was getting boring when Youth was out chasing people. He was fairly sure both he and Youth could keep up the deal of no touching for the rest of the day, at least.

He met up with Youth outside in the market, near the bookstore, just stepping out behind him and joining his roommate in walking.

"Enjoying the chase so far?" If Youth wanted to give chase, perhaps Bell could be persuaded. Perhaps...though there was little in it for being caught.

He'd known his roommate was there, somewhere, nearby. Youth wasn't sure how, but he'd been aware. So when Bell joined him, there wasn't any surprise. Just an amused glance. He would behave and not catch Bell unless Bell wanted a chase.

"I am! Are you?" He wouldn't mind a chase where he didn't have to hold back. The chases of Fred and Promise he'd had to hold himself back for, though they'd been pleasant enough. Youth was fairly certain he could catch Bell in a fair contest, though he wasn't completely certain. That was what would make it fun.

Somehow, he wasn't surprised that Youth didn't jump or seem alarmed at his sudden appearance. They seemed to have a natural tendency to find each other--a stalker tendency, he supposed, to use one of Genius' words--whether on the journals or in person. Especially in person.

"Mmm." He half-nodded, shoving his hands in his pockets where they would be safe from accidental touches. "It's alright, though not much of a challenge without handcuffs involved." Glancing sidelong at him, Bell matched Youth's steps as they continued down the pathway.

It was probably a very good thing that Youth enjoyed Bell's company. Otherwise his time in Edensphere would have been very frustrating so far. Bell was... a presence. A familiar, trustworthy presence.

Youth had been working hard on taming his flusterability. Bell got too many reactions out of him. All the same, Youth half-tripped at the mention of the handcuffs. It was less the handcuffs themselves and more what they'd been with that was... interesting. Then again, he wondered if that was a good topic. He had a lot to sort through. "It would be more challenging if we were required to actually capture the robbers instead of bump into them. Or be bumped into. But I am not complaining!"

Bell noticed the trip and wished he hadn't. It was always a very real possibility when dealing with sexual relationships that someone might just discover they're not that into you. Realer still, when attempting a same-sex relationship with a first-timer, that your partner discovers they might just be straight after all. No matter. He had kind of been prepared for something like that; Bell just hadn't been prepared for a kid.

Maybe it was good they couldn't touch each other for this event. Youth could take the time to think things over. Bell had some thinking to do too, he supposed, though he had already decided that finding a new roommate would be pretty inconvenient, sex or no.

So, in the interest of giving Youth some space after this recent development, Bell resisted the urge to suggest Youth could be required to actually capture him later.

"It's almost too easy...especially when I hand you a win. Next time, maybe you can actually try instead of making me do all the work, hm?"
