It was amazing how much having a full belly had improved her mood. Ever since the Wilderness had turned into a buffet, Bastet had been stuffing her face as well as hauling food back to her house, filling her refrigerator and freezer for the the first time in over a month. It was every type of food she'd ever heard of, as well as many she'd never seen before. She knew it wouldn't last, so she was taking full advantage for as long as it was here.
She settled back in her chair, looking out the window at the midday crowd. She wore a thick green sweater over grey leggings, her legs tucked beneath her and the journal open before her on the desk. She flipped through it from time to time, amused at the continuing outbursts from those unhappy about the unicorns.
The morning had been fairly busy, as it always was just after a snowfall. It was easy enough to deal with though, the normalcy soothing in contrast to the upheaval caused by the establishment of the Watch. While she wouldn't say so publicly, part of her was against setting up any form of government here. She didn't want this place to feel permanent and settled; she wanted it to continue to feel surreal and transient, a place she was just passing through before returning to where she really belonged. But a Watch could be beneficial for people here, give them a sense of having more control over their environment in a place where they all too often felt powerless. And it's not as though she didn't already have strong ties; her misgivings were personal, and didn't outweigh the potential for good.
Bastet opened her desk drawer to pull out a plastic container that held three meat pies, breaking off a piece and popping it in her mouth. No sense worrying about it now; the ball had already started rolling, and all they could do is guide it as best they could.
