Relic had been a little hesitant to come at first, but there was a feeling that pushed him to go ahead. He couldn't place what it was, but finally he'd given into it. So here he was, on his first visit to the Arena in hopes of aiding the Watch. It wasn't hard to notice the man on the bleachers, so Relic made his way over to him. "Om, excuse me," he started. "Are you Stoneface, sir?" He was getting nervous again and it was so tempting to turn around and go back the way he came.

Stoneface eyed the orange... thing as it headed his way, and was only mildly surprised when it opened its mouth to speak. As things went in the Sphere, it wasn't too strange to have what appeared to be a giant, walking, talking lizard. It didn't mean that he liked it, but, well, it was bound to be one of the things that wanted to sign up.

Could those paws of his grasp a sword? He wondered. He'd heard somewhere that lizards had very sharp teeth, and he wouldn't be against using something like that, at least.

"Yes, I'm Stoneface," he said. "And I'm guessing you're here about the Watch. What's your name?"

"I'm Relic, and yes sir I am," Relic knew to respest authority figures, but he was watching Stoneface curiously as he answered. This person hadn't seemed nearly as surprised as most people he'd met for the first time. Was he just more used to seeing things that were odd than other people? Whether or not that was the case, the lack of surprise made this much less awkward.

"Ah, Relic. I remember you."

He leaned back, face living up to his name. Time to repeat the same old song and dance, see who spoke of good wages, see who just wanted to fight, see who spouted that nonsense about the good of the people. Stoneface wasn't sure what the correct answer was, himself, but he had a good idea of where it lingered.

"Let's get straight to the point. Why do you want to join the Watch?"

Relic paused to think about it for a long moment as he hadn't really done so before. There were a couple of reasons he could settle on comfortably. "Well, I think I have experience catching outlaws," he started. "What you were saying was kind of familiar." He hesitated for a moment to get his words straight. "And I don't think people should be allowed to do bad things to others and get away with it."

Face still passive, he leaned back, tapping his index finger against the bleachers a few times. "Seeming familiar generally isn't a precursor to finding a job," he said. "Anything else? What are you expecting out of this?"

"I know, but I was told I should follow my instincts."

At the question of what he wanted out of it, Relic blanked completely. "You're supposed to want something out of working?" he asked. That was something he didn't really know about.

Well, at least he was good at following orders.

"Well, yes. Some people are in it for money, others have a sense of duty and fulfillment, and some just like to legally bash other people over the head. Others just think patrolling is their idea of a good time. You don't have any, oh, ideas or aspirations as to what you'll be doing in the Watch?"

"Well getting paid for working is nice, but doing good work is too," Relic replied without much thought. Working for profit didn't seem to be something he was familiar with. "I really just want to be able to help where I can is all. I like being helpful. I guess that is my aspiration."

Stoneface nodded. Relic was simple, that much was obvious, but he'd give him a fair go, just like everybody else. "All right. Then, what do you think you can do in terms of protecting others and yourself? How do you fight? Or, rather, can you fight?"

Relic nodded at the question. While he wasn't sure how strong he was compared to some of the people in the sphere, he did recall some basic things that were more easily guessed than anything else. "I can fight with fire attacks and my claws and tail." Of course his claws on his "hands" didn't look particularly threatening, but looks can be decieving. "I also have a good throwing arm and Cara taught me to use a slingshot."

Stoneface stared at Relic's tail, complete with fire on the tip and wondered, not for the last time, what exactly he was. "Very well. The arena's yours." He gestured towards the empty area, equipped with different types of weaponry and a few training dummies. "Show me what you can do."

Consequently, none of it was anything Relic had seen or knew the purpose of so he didn't get it right off. "How? Am I supposed to fight somebody?" A short explanation might be in order here, he figured.

Oh, Gods, the... creature was dense, wasn't he? Sighing lightly, Stoneface rose to his feet and walked into the middle of the arena, clapping the dummy with one hand. "I've never seen a fire attack before. You can demonstrate what it looks like in the middle of the Arena, otherwise you can light this dummy on fire, provided we grab a bucket of water or some blankets to stamp it out. Whatever you can do with that slingshot of yours, or your claws, show it to me on the dummy." Not that it'll be any show of your skill unless you happen to be facing an opponent full of straw, he thought to himself, but he had to see something and he wasn't keen on Relic lighting him on fire. "Do you get it?"

"Yup. It's different than I've seen but I got it." Relic moved up close to the dummy. "I haven't bought the slingshot yet, but Cara is holding onto it for me ( ... )

Stoneface watched Relic's attempts, somewhat critically. He couldn't deny that the lizard's claws were effective tools and the fact that they glowed was rather curious, although it did strike him as a bit unnecessary; light was no copper's friend. Then again, Relic didn't necessarily have to go on night shift, because the tail would doubtlessly get in the way.

As the smoke filled the Arena, then the fire, a realization occurred to him: Relic must be some sort of intelligent dragon. Well, well, that was... interesting, at least. When it came to fighting, the lizard - dragon? - had potential, but obviously hadn't reached it to its fullest yet, not to mention his simplistic replies to his questions.

How old was Relic, in, er... dragon-years? No older than a young teenager, he was sure.

"All right, Relic, that's enough," he said. "Thanks for coming over. The results of the interviews will be posted on the bulletin board for a few days."
