Summary: Geranium thinks about a friend who hasn't returned yet, and creates something for him. Feel free to come across him.
Food and other such resources might be scarce, but wood and scrap metal were certainly in abundance. Out of these materials, Geranium fashioned a cross for Chapel. It was a simple symbol--two lengths of wood--that had little meaning to him, yet it seemed somehow to make him think of his friend, so maybe that was meaning enough. He set it in the place where he'd watched Chapel fall. His friend hadn't returned--not yet--but he didn't feel like he was committing Chapel to death with this; it felt instead like reminding him that Geranium was still here, thinking of him and waiting for him.
He planted the cross in the earth and stood looking at it silently for a while. Then he sighed. "I guess there's no telling when you might be back," he said aloud. "But people are still being reborn, so I'm not giving up hope. Koi came back just a day ago." He smiled at the memory. "And I'm still scavenging, which keeps me busy, but I asked to help guard the food supply too. Don't like having time to think."
