For Truth extantlaw October 24 2009, 04:34:42 UTC
Justice had spent the early part of the afternoon working on the transcription of another journal from the Library. It was one that he had chosen himself, having decided that the state of its pages - half charred and water-stained - would likely make it of interest to Crow.

The only interruption had been from Kazahana, delivering a selection of old medical records from the Library, along with her neatly written notes on the significant point of interest. These were now scattered across the low table in front of the couch upon which Justice had settled himself, legs pulled up and another file open beside him.

He barely even looked up at the sound of the door being unlocked, merely noting absently that it must e later than he thought if Truth was back from his shift at the Hatchery.

His shift had been another one of those uneventful nights. He'd taken his old journal with him to study, and he was starting to remember things. Or, at least, discover them again ( ... )

"Wright."

The smile he offered in return was perfunctory at best, and he reached forward to shuffle the loose papers on the table back inside their file. That particular discovery was not something he wished to discuss with Truth - not now. He knew exactly how the the mention of that name troubled him, although Justice did not know why, any more than he knew why he was troubled by it himself. There was an uncomfortable sense that it was connected with his father, somehow, and that was not a topic he had attempted to traverse with Truth since that day in the Wilderness. It was possible that the man had forgotten it entirely, and partof him still wished that were true, although he could not bring himself to ask ( ... )

He let out a frustrated sound as he took another step forward. Oh well, this would all be over with soon. A hug would work, right? Well that wasn't so bad at all. And anyway, Edgeworth could probably use one of those...or ten. He smiled a little bit. Well, that would actually be kind of nice.

"No, I didn't." And he half-rolled his eyes. "Just get over here, Justice."

And he walked forward until he was standing close enough to reach out and touch him.

"Come on, just give me a hug."

And with that, he let out a small chuckle.

Justice winced at the touch, meeting Truth's eyes with a glare that he usually reserved for use on recalcitrant interns and their sub-standard patient records.

"It's not funny, Wright ( ... )

"Dear, dear." He said it under his breath, shaking his head softly and closing his eyes. "Come on, let's just get this over with, Edgeworth. And then you can go back to your file, okay?"

Well, here goes nothing.

He took that last step, closing the distance between them and wrapping his arms around Edgeworth, pulling him close. He could smell his shampoo, and the realization of how close they were made the heat rise in his neck. He forgot himself for a moment, until he was able to whisper.

"You have to hug me back, Edgeworth."

He could feel the heat creeping up his neck as Edgeworth's hands slid over him. He closed his eyes, reminding himself that this was just a friendly gesture, nothing more. This was why he had hesitated at first, and why he had been reluctant to act for a few moments- he knew his own feelings for Justice, and he knew that being close to him, while everything that he wanted, also brought with it a longing that was almost painful.

He let go after possibly a second too long, and he smiled, resting his hands on Edgeworth's upper arms.

"See? That wasn't so bad, was it?"

He had to resist the urge to ruffle Edgeworth's hair, and he grinned widely.

Good job resisting that urge Truth - I assume you like your own teeth still in your mouth extantlaw October 27 2009, 15:46:37 UTC
It was a relief when he felt the tug of the mistletoe ease, and Truth finally took a step back, breaking the contact save for the hands that still rested on his arms.

He didn't pull away immediately, although he didn't meet Truth's eyes, his discomfort at the forced intimacy still lingering. Truth's response to the question of his sexuality was still vivid in his memory, as were the awkward days afterwards, and he had no desire or words to explain that his only frame of reference for physical closeness was as part of a sexual act.

Another moment before he finally felt composed enough to look up, although he still skirted the honestly happy look that he could read in Truth's eyes.

"I don't intend to make a habit of it."

There was a frown at the familiar idiotic grin, and Justice finally disengaged himself, taking a step back towards the couch. Without another word, he picked up the abandoned file, settling himself back to work and hoping that there would be no further conversation on the matter.
