------
It was impossible for Fullmetal to have left the Sphere, Alchemy decided. He had come to this conclusion the second night Fullmetal hadn't come home. Fullmetal, his brother, the owner of the house. The boy, although some part of Alchemy acknowledged that Fullmetal most certainly seemed older, had taken him in right after his birth. Fullmetal was his brother. He refused to accept that he had gone somewhere Alchemy couldn't chase. Refused.
His metal arm tapped the side of the elevator as it descended, slightly muffled by white gloves. The machinery truly was amazing. His golden eyes bored holes into the seal between the doors. He had been into the Scrapyard countless times to search for his brother, but one more time wasn't going to hurt. He had checked all but the Wilderness for Fullmetal. His heart clenched. Fullmetal... how could he have let his brother wander off by himself? It was his negligence that caused it.
He sighed as the doors open and walked out, braid brushing the back of his neck as usual.
"Fullmetal." He cupped his hands and called out across it, hoping, somehow, that the blonde boy would come and explain away the disappearance. After a decent punch for getting lost. "Fullmetal!"
He continued walking, looking causually at the stacks of junk. He passed by a bent bicycle wheel, its spokes removed from the rim to form slightly rusted barbs. Under it, aimless stacks of things nature refused to erode sparkled.
Alchemy put one foot down and felt a jabbing pain in his foot. "D-damn!" As he hopped around and pulled off the boot, he could see a nail just poking up through the bottom. He yanked it out, tossing it to the side. There was a small metallic sound as it collided with other metal. "Piece of shit." He examined the boot and slipped it back onto his foot. He'd have to find a way to put metal into the shoes if he was going to be down here.
He laced the boot back up, quickly. A silver glint caught his eye, and he looked up. A pile shifted slightly as gravity forced things to accommodate its will. The thing, about ten feet away, slid down the pile. It was open, tantalizingly silver. He stood and walked over, picking up the slim chain.
Rust fell out of the watch face. He tapped the watch face, but it wouldn't work. His eyes narrowed at it. "Wonder how much-" His eyes went over to the side of the watch, which faced the hands.
Don't forget
3. Oct 11
His eyes hardened as he read over the date. 3 Oct 11. It was a date, obviously... his metal hand closed the watch. What had happened on 3 October 11? His mind swam, but as his hand opened back up, the watch now closed, the sigil on the front rang even more bells.
His fist closed around the watch. Why had this been opened? He stuffed it into his pocket. It was missing something, but what, he couldn't tell. Something, aside from the fact that the watch itself didn't work. That part didn't concern him.
As he walked, his hand closed around it. Wearing it... felt familiar. The weight, the pressure. His faced looked up the sky.
He had to find Fullmetal and he had to do it soon.
Though the metal hand couldn't feel the cool watch, he could hear the chain jingling as he walked. Idly, he clipped it onto a belt loop.
"Fullmetal," came another call into the Scrapyard. "Screw it," he muttered. He turned his back and, as he walked back to the elevator, he kicked a piece of metal. It felt flying, clanging against a knight's battered shield.
Fullmetal wasn't in the Scrapyard, least not around the elevator. He had to search the City Without Walls, the Tree itself. If he could grab some person from the Market to go explore the Wilderness, he could look there too. His brother was waiting for him.
The past would wait.
