It had barely been light when he crossed the bridge from the Access Point to Marketplace Island; the stars still visible beyond the glass of the Sphere as dawn started to break. Justice had risen early, finding himself alone in the house and with no need to be particularly quiet. He had brought nothing with him save for a flask of tea and the sword cane, and had dressed only in jeans and a light sweater - something prompting him that they would confer some kind of anonymity on the wearer.
But he did not encounter a soul as he made the journey down from the residential sector to the islands, nor in the walk to the farthest corner of the Marketplace. Three canvas-covered shapes marked his destination - the tumbledown bridge that was to be the setting for an experiment that he had no way of being certain would be successful. Fullmetal had proven to him that he could, indeed, transmute wood from one shape into another, creating a small statue of a cat from a piece of timber during their conversation at the Paper Factory. But this was a test on a larger scale, and despite Fullmetal's confidence, Justice found it hard to imagine.
He pulled back the canvas, revealing piles of wood and rope that had been provided in part from the Scavenger's Yard, the rest being remnants of some of the tents from Housekeeping Island - now gradually being taken down and replaced by a more permanent structures under the strict auspices of Bubbles. There was no real need to inspect it again, but he did so anyway, pausing to look out over the unstable remains of the bridge that led to the island marked on his map, and hoping that his estimation of the amount of materials required would prove to be accurate.
That done, he settled down to wait, taking a seat on the nearest pile of wood. His hand rested lightly on the cane, and he tapped a finger on the silver handle as he looked out over the void, wondering if whatever was on the other side would answer any of the questions he had about the nature of this place and who controlled it.
