Rain came pouring down in buckets, the previously warm summer zephyr transformed into a slightly harsher and cooler breeze. Fullmetal shivered involuntarily, having come to work woefully unprepared for rain and having had the misfortune to become caught in a torrential downpour while travelling from the elevator out to Paper Factory island. Even though that had been hours ago by now, he still found himself soaked through. The experience of being rained upon had invoked an extremely strong negative feeling that he couldn't quite place but hadn't been able to shake all day, and the occasional clap of thunder hadn't much helped in calming him. He wasn't particularly afraid of thunder storms, but the sheer closeness of the sound was beginning to wear on his already slightly jittery nerves. The fact that he was only protected by a tent didn't help much.
A particularly loud and somehow ferocious thunderclap almost cost Fullmetal the pointer finger on his right hand as he was momentarily distracted by the sound. He stopped the machine he'd been working with and inspected the digit; no damage, but it had been a close call.
"Really, I can't afford to lose body parts," he scolded himself aloud while flexing and waggling the finger at himself, "besides, it wouldn't be worth the trouble of trying to figure out how to create a prosthetic just for a finger."
