Oh, so that was what sketching was... Cara quickly followed Helios' example and left the way clear for the mirror spider to have at it. She watched as the two of them clashed briefly, then the sketched spider vanished.

The real one, though, looked like it was much the worse for wear. Cara rushed in, jumping up on its head and stabbing her spear down through where she figured its brain ought to be--that seemed to do the trick, as it flailed around in its death throes. "Watch out!" she shouted, clinging to the spear as her feet slipped out from under her.

As it thrashed around, Renae scrambled back. She thought she was at a safe distance anyway, but better to be sure. Being knocked over once was more than enough.

She sighed when the spider stopped twitching, then immediately glanced around for others. "...do they travel in groups?" Hopefully not. Constant ambushes on their search would be annoying.

Once the legs had stopped flailing enough, Helios moved in to sever the head the rest of the way from the body, just to be safe, and a little out of irritation but who could blame him?

"Let's just keep an eye out, Cara you've been here before right?" So she might know a little more about the monsters than he did. Helios retook his position at the front, not about to let the two of them get smacked around again. "Let's keep movin', before the body draws attention." In his experience monsters would just keep coming if you stood around too long.

Cara stumbled a little as Helios decapitated the body and yanked her spear out of the spider's head. Fortunately it hadn't been too gunked up.

"Yeah," said Cara. "It's not swarming with monsters, but there are enough around to be a problem. I have a skill that can let us escape quickly if we run into another one though." She would prefer doing that to fighting and tiring themselves out, or being injured.

Under other circumstances she might have wanted to take the lead herself, but with no specific destination in mind it didn't matter very much. She just followed, looking for any sign that Tatsu was anywhere nearby.

The now very-dead spider didn't receive more than a last glance from Renae. "Between that and the three of us, we can handle 'em." She wasn't afraid of battle, but they were here for a purpose and quality time with spiders wasn't part of that.

She nodded at Helios' idea, being of the same mindset. No point in staying around to get mobbed. Naturally, she took rear guard, glancing behind them every so often. Tatsu was kept in mind also, but she didn't see any sign of him, so far. If they circled the entire island and didn't find anything...what then?

If Helios took the lead, that would free Cara up a little more for keeping an eye out for Tatsu. Helios only knew vaguely what he looked like, so it was better he keep an eye out on the monster ambushes should they get involved in any more. "A skill?" Mildly interested, Helios would definitely have to come back to this island later for a little monster hunting. They were big and impressive, his favorite kind.

He picked a direction and began walking, searching the sky and area around as he did so not only for monster-like activity, but any signs of Tatsu as well.

"I can throw down a cloud of smoke to get us all away," Cara explained. She still wasn't sure exactly how she did it. She didn't need to carry actual smoke bombs but it didn't feel quite like magic either--as long as it worked, though.

But there was still not a trace of Tatsu as they continued walking. Cara looked up into the trees, in hollows on the ground, as thoroughly as she could... not a trace. Not even a dragony footprint or a bit of blue hair. "Come on, Tatsu..." she said quietly.

Renae peered around warily, watching for both Tatsu and more spiders or whatever else might be on the island. Ambushes and worry aside, it was an intriguing place. She actually stayed silent a few more moments, intent on spotting and pointing out anything notable--but there was no luck.

"...I don't remember him being really stealthy...." She frowned, trying to think of an innocuous reason as to why he'd be here and why he would have stayed away for so long. Little came to mind that was plausible, but they hadn't covered the entire island, so she wasn't going to suggest they stop. Besides, that was up to Cara, not herself.

A cloud of smoke? Unusual skill. Oh well, Helios wasn't going to pretend that he understood. Not much of Edensphere ever made sense after all. A shuffle in the brush some distance away caught his attention momentarily, until it was revealed to be just another giant spider... hadn't noticed them yet but it was there.

"Careful..." No signs of Tatsu. Still they hadn't scoured the entire island. "Well, was just a guess that he might be here anyway, he could be somewhere else y'know." He murmured more to Cara's look and tone of voice than anything, poor kid was pretty beat up over this.

Cara couldn't help but smile a little at what Renae said. "He isn't, really," she said. He'd managed to get attacked by one of the scout ants during the swarm, after all...

Helios' warning made her look up. She gripped her spear slightly tighter at the sight of the spider some distance away, but as long as it hadn't noticed them there was no need to do anything more than be particularly cautious.

"Yeah... I know," said Cara. If Tatsu had been here for some reason and hurt, she felt sure that he would have written for help, like he had the other times. "But it doesn't hurt to look, just in case." She knew that if it turned out he had been here, it would be hard to forgive herself. She continued on, trying to move quietly as possible.

" 'Course it doesn't. We haven't seen everything yet." Renae nodded encouragingly, not willing to add to thoughts that Cara must already be having.

She perked up and turned around, having thought she heard something behind them, but...nothing. It was probably just her paranoia getting to her. This place was awfully quiet.

So had Helios, but Helios had decided to go poke it with a sword too. He wasn't going to bring that up, however. The spider slowly meandered closer towards them, it didn't look like it had spotted them yet but given its trajectory it was likely to find them before too long. Helios braced himself for another fight.

He continued to move with the girls, keeping himself between them and the spider. The place really was too damn quiet and a little creepy. "How big's Crystala, anyway?"
