Chosen and Cecdan! Whee! hunny_sensor June 5 2009, 17:13:59 UTC
They blended with the crowd impeccably, folks gathered around to begin their dance. He was entirely confident with his skill, his mind noting with a strange exasperation that he has been to a LOT of fancy shindigs like this before and knew how to participate. Maybe he didn't like fancy get-togethers, but it seemed that he was at least slightly comfortable here. Having a friend here really helped.

He assumed the position when they found a comfortable spot, one hand placing upon Dani's hip, while the other held her opposing hand aloft. Chosen smiled at her with a quiet chuckle, waited for the rhythm cue, and led the way...

The dance Chosen led her in felt...weird to Dani. She knew how to dance, but she felt like 'dancing' meant something wilder, with more swaying and clapping and less tuxedos.

But she managed not to fail horribly, and soon was keeping up with Chosen easily. "Do balls happen a lot in the Sphere?" she asked. "It seems like everyone here knows how to dance!"

"I've been here a while, and this is the first one," he answered quietly, humming a portion of the music as he gently twirled her. They had a few jealous looks from the crowds that usually mingled with him at the Marketplace, but he ignored them, instead looking her in the eyes.

"Dancing is the same as riding a bike, I think. Once you learn it, you never seem to forget it. Muscle memory is much stronger in some ways than mental memory, I think." He spoke quietly.

"The way one holds a pen, or the way you walk... no amount of amnesia can erase that."

"Yeah...it's like, when I'm working on something that needs fixin', I already know what to do with the tools," replied Cecdan. "And swimming down in the Wilderness sorta felt the same. Though I don't think I danced like this before now. Not that I don't like it! I do, a lot." She smiled.

"There's a first time for everything!" Chosen chuckled, giving a glance to watch out for Bubbles. She'd recognize him easily, if anything, so he had to be extra cautious.

"You want to try leading when the music changes? It's pretty fun. I'll give you the rundown."

"Leading?" she asked. "And who are you looking for?"

"Yeah! You lead the dance and take us wherever you want us to go. I can keep going if that's what you want. Oh, and I'm looking for Bubbles. I work with her, so if she'd recognize anyone, it'd be me. If she spots me, we're screwed," he chuckled.

"She's easy to distract, though. She's got a date too, I hear, so he should keep her busy. All right... music's starting to change. Your call!"

The next song sounded faster and more upbeat. Dani grinned. "I wanna lead."

The song started, and Dani stepped back. She started to sway and clap; this felt natural, and soon she was actually dancing, not the slow stuff Chosen had been leading her in. "Come on!"

This was new. Definitely new. His brain tried to dig deep and find any knowledge of this type of music and dance... and found nothing. The ballroom dancing was second-nature to him, but now he was officially lost. Uh oh.

Chosen blinked at her, looking positively perplexed, but soon found himself joining right in. Pff, he could learn new moves!

"Okay, I give. Your leading is a hell of a lot more fun!" He laughed.

"I'm guess I'm just that kinda girl!"

Some of the other dancers were in Chosen's position, and quickly started following Dani's lead in the dance. She smiled. This was fun!

The song ended way too soon, though, and went back to the slower, ballroom dancing-type songs. Dani, a little out of breath, looked at Chosen. "Okay, your turn."

Feel free to jump to the table thread if you wanna. hunny_sensor June 7 2009, 05:05:53 UTC
She seemed tired, and understandably so: The music was a bit intense, considering. "Why don't we get a little punch, first? This spot will be here when we get back, right?"

He dipped into a slight bow, then. Time to slather on a little more charm~ "And thank you for teaching me how to truly dance, cutiepie. ♥"

Rockin' it out with the fail dancing esp_optimism June 6 2009, 02:38:55 UTC
The dance floor was suspiciously empty. There was only a few couples (if that!) out, so Medium grabbed Prongs's hand and dragged him out. "Come on! Look, no one's dancing. They just need to know what to do!" She gave him a grin and walked out to the center of the floor.

Remembering all the steps from her instructions with Companion, Medium allowed herself to focus, somehow still managing to give her date a smile. "Okay. As long as we do exactly as Companion told us, we'll be just fine!" She giggled, and added, "My toes are here, see?" She poked one out from under her dress and jiggled it for him to see.

Be surprised if they don't fall over themselves! silver_antlers June 6 2009, 02:49:15 UTC
Prongs' mind immediately went into panic mode. Dancing. Oh how he despised dancing.

"Are you sure that we're the ones that should be showing people-" he started to say, but it was too late; Medium already dragged him out to the middle of the dance floor. Once there, he stood awkwardly as she pointed out where her toes were. It was sad that she had to do that in the first place. The teen forced a smile and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. It'd be ok. So what if everyone's staring at them and he didn't actually have a clue what he was doing? He took lessons though, right? Shouldn't he be fine?

Prongs offered his hand to his date and put his hand on her hip, just like Companion had instructed him to. They could do this. Which foot do they step off with first?

Of course they should! They had dancing practice, they were completely prepared for this sort of thing. Hadn't that been why they had gone to Companion for help? Of course it was! So he shouldn't feel paranoid at all. Besides, there were enough people that they would be perfectly fine. Besides, they were just going to have fun and not worry so much about what other people thought. That was what was important.

Medium slipped her hand into his. "Okay. Let's start with the right! Ready..." She trailed off to count to herself and then, to prompt him she whispered,"One!"

And so she took a step.

He followed, and strangely enough they moved in the same direction. There was a fleeting, relieved smile on Prongs' face as they went for the next step, that one being in time as well. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad afterall?

The two of them continued to do the simple step, and though Prongs' feet were awkward he made a concious effort not to step on Medium's toes. This resulted in him looking down very often, barely making eye contact with Medium. He was holding onto Medium's hand tighter than he had to, but it was hard to concentrate on that when his heart was hammering away. So far, so good, though!

After another silent moment, Prongs grinned and glanced up at Medium's face. "This actually isn't that bad," he said but then immediately glanced down at his feet as he placed one of them awkwardly on the floor. Still, didn't step on Medium's toes yet!
