11am OH SHI-- bubble_ditz June 2 2009, 02:27:33 UTC
Four days before the ball and Bubbles was a little 4 ft 11 bundle of hyperactive energy. Nothing was more important to her than getting ready for this event. Being somewhat of a control freak, she was determined to get every detail perfect, down to the flower centerpieces at each table and what type of lanterns were going to hang in the Park.

Naturally a stall with metal objects caught her attention as she passed by. Her eyes critically analyzed all the junk metalwork being displayed. It took her a moment to recognize the person behind the stall and when she did, she was so startled she almost dropped her pink shopping bag in shock.

"Oh!" She squeaked. "Its you!"

Clearly someone didn't pay enough attention to the journals.

There was something of the combination of squeaking, pink, and an utter lack of manners that immediately set Alekhine on edge. However, her own instincts kicked in and nothing in her demeanor and posture gave away the fact that she did not want to be talking to this woman.

Everything except the sudden change in eyecolor from green to brown as she set the small music box down.

"Good morning. I must imagine it is me, whom else would I be?"

Screw manners--why didn't the dead stay that way around here?

"...By Oz. It is you!" There was shock--not glee, and surprisingly not hate--in her eyes as she stared back. "Miss Clé. My goodness! I hadn't realized you'd come back from the dead! You look the same too, not even a little bit...deadish. I was told it could happen but..."

She trailed off as a sudden thought came to her. "Has your friends reappeared as well?"

"My name is no longer Clé, I am sorry that you were not made aware." Not really sorry at all, but if this woman insisted on stand here and prattling on...

"It is not entirely uncommon, or so I am told, for those who have died here to return after a time. Though, as you said, you were also told." So why are you gawking, Bubbles?

"Which friends are these?

Well that was a twist. "You...changed your name?" Wait, that sounded awfully familiar...Huh. "What, you decided the first one wasn't exotic enough?" Clé sounded awfully like a made up word after all...

Prattle prattle. "So the rumor goes. In reality, there has more people that have left than have returned." Why was she being so nice, ugh. Must be the shock factor.

...Wait what did she say? "What friends? Fallen and East of course! And that other girl, Spirit? Something like that."

"Clé means key, in French. I am not surprised you are unfamiliar with it. It is a very difficult language to master." Which means, apparently, that they had gotten to the taking subtle digs at each other part of the conversation.

But when Bubbles started on names, it sounded like sharp static to Alekhine. She was fairly certain the other woman wasn't doing it on purpose, since it didn't even seem like the sort of noise one could make if they tried. Still and yet, she didn't want Bubbles knowing anything more about her than she already did, so...

"I am afraid I have not heard any news, one way or another." Slight head tilt, a shrug of a sort. "As these things tend to be."

Oh they were back to this were they? "I'm afraid I don't speak the more obscure languages, no. Its good to meet someone versed in the things no one's heard of."

Bubbles didn't notice anything unusual about Alekhine's reaction to her words. "Oh. That's a shame." And it was. Bubbles had liked East, almost as much as she had hated Fallen and his crude and possessive attempts to hide East from her. "I wonder why you have reappeared and they haven't." God why was she still around?

"Oh well. This place is cruel after all. I should continue to get ready for the ball. ...You are coming, aren't you?" This last was said almost as an afterthought, as though it was obligatory for the other woman to attend.

"How many languages do you speak, Bubbles? One is only curious about these things. As far as who returns and who does not, well. I am certain things would be very different if you or I were in charge of that sort of thing." As in one or the other wouldn't be there at all.

Alekhine cupped her chin slightly at the mention of the ball, her body language slightly bored and dismissive of the conversation. "We shall see, will we not?"

She bristled. "Really, how rude to ask that of someone without memories. How should I know? I only recently came to know the word "Oz" after all." Maybe it was an excuse--really she didn't remember hardly anything about her former life, just a vagueness of her place and nothing more.

"Yes, things would be very different indeed." Not only would Alekhine not be there, there would also be a overabundance of pink everywhere. Good thing she wasn't in charge then.

"Well everyone is going," she said, gathering her stuff close, "It would be a shame if you were the only one left, all alone and sad, wouldn't it?" She gave her a sunny, perky smile. "Good luck, Miss Clé--or whoever you are now!"
