all the pigs are all lined up, I give you all that you want... )
She kept her face impassive as Phoenix spoke, her mind reviewing and filing away each bit of information he recited. He'd confirmed what she'd suspected; someone not quite human. She watched as he leaned forward, identifying and analyzing scents with incredible speed and confidence.
But she couldn't help but close her eyes briefly at his last statement, momentarily shaken. Raped, then eaten? Yes, the killer had certainly enjoyed himself.
"Sick is right," she replied, her voice tight. "Blood discovered other body parts maybe...a month and a half or two months ago. And she said she'd been finding them for at least a month before that. I made her promise to stay away. I'd meant to look into it, but got...distracted." With so many people close to her dying and disappearing in quick succession, she'd had little time or energy to devote to this; it had actually slipped her mind until tonight.
"So we're looking for a non-human, someone who can climb this tree while carrying all this," she said, thoughtfully. "Is there a trail back down?"

At her question about the trail, Phoenix shook his head, glancing up through the branches.
"Only trails up here are the ones we've been leavin' behind, darlin'. Nothin' like this," he nodded towards the dismembered limbs.
"Way I see it," he continued, looking back down at Bastet, "either we're dealin' with someone who can walk on air like it's solid ground, or whoever it was started his meal somewhere else," he pointed upwards, "and threw out what he couldn't finish for us to find. Question is, what kinda person rapes and kills a buncha folk, then dumps the leftovers like a kid that won't eat his vegetables?"

She frowned, dropping her eyes for a moment. "Someone confident that they won't be found...which is strange. I wouldn't say a lot of people come up here, but it's hardly inaccessible. It seems an odd choice for someone who's obviously taken enough care not to be discovered yet."
Whoever this was obviously had the privacy to do this at his leisure...and how was he hiding all signs of his activities?
