Spike could only stare in shock as the memory projection started, as his companions disappeared from his view- and as he watched himself walk in and talk to the unusual creature in the jail cell.

He continued to stare, struggling to digest all of the new information he was being assaulted with... he used to be a Power Ranger, whatever that meant. Then the flashback to his saddest memory...

His father dying.

And he'd allowed the criminal to escape, somehow, when he'd cried after the monster had taunted him.

He stared some more as the projection faded, rooted to the spot, his mouth open slightly. He couldn't speak.

The doors had opened at just the right time; any more words exchanged between Sol and Kanin and it likely would have gotten ugly.

As soon as Kanin stepped out of the door he lost track of Spike and Sol. When the young man spoke he immediately recognized it as his friend, but reaching out did nothing other than cause the image to shimmer for a moment.

Ranger? Rangers were some kind of police or military was all that Kanin's brain supplied him with. SPD...PD usually stood for Police Department, right? So Spike had been some kind of cop, or maybe superhero (only those folks wore spandex) and so had his dad...and his dad had died at work ( ... )

Spike nodded mutely, glad for his friend's presence. He was trying to puzzle a few things out, to distract him from the sudden gaping hole of sadness that had opened up within him. He could tell from this memory that his father had been very important to him- and his death... it was heroic, but still a death.

Power Ranger... and the suit... he unknowingly came to some of the same conclusions Kanin had. He must have been some kind of superhero in his past life, or at least some type of police officer.

But how had the villain escape? Through the tear, somehow? Spike didn't know, but suddenly, he was finding he didn't care.

He'd wanted so badly to get his memories back, but now he wasn't so sure he really did want them.

The sudden opening of the doors had caught Sol slightly off-guard. For some reason, he hadn't been expecting them to just open right back up and show them . . .that annoying guy's memory? He been thinking something along of the lines of some giant mutant monster tearing the doors open only to try and make them its meal. It was Edensphere and he didn't trust this place at all not to fuck with him and everyone else. Although. . . he hadn't ever considered the fact that their memories may be used against them until now ( ... )
