I wrote this in response to a topic of the week on Adoptions of Love on if religion should be included as a part of the schools. These were my thoughts...

I believe that God is a foundation of American history. No, it is not the religion for everyone. But, it is like other countries that have a primary religion...that is the religion that is deeply a part of the culture and everyday life of those people. Just because a country has a primary religion does not mean that everyone must conform to it. We have our own morals and believe in things that we choose to. Just because I was raised Episcopalian does not mean that I believe in the practices of the religion. In fact, it doesn't mean that I agree with the idea of religion at all. People come up with their own morals and religious system. It is a personal choice and simply because a government is based upon religion does not mean that it is shoved upon a child.

Each person chooses for themselves. We are a government based upon Christianity and for those that are Christian, they should be allowed to practice that even within the public school. Prayer is a part of most peoples lives, so all that someone truly needs to do is pray to their god. No one is ever going to agree on religious beliefs, but this is no reason to abstain from religion within the schools. When religion was a larger part of American culture, we did not have all the problems that we do today. Perhaps something is to be said about that?
