It’s another LOST Day and I am so ready for it. You can tell the difference can’t you? The difference now that we have passed the halfway point in the series. Admittedly the story has become much bigger, much broader than any but the most imaginative could have guessed in Season 1, but some of the little holes are getting filled in. I had an excellent metaphor for the whole thing which has now slipped my mind completely. It’s not the one about building a puzzle by looking in a mirror…
In addition to LOST, I have work on my schedule for today. I’m glad about that. My hours have been cut back a lot this month and that is not a good thing especially considering what happened to Eloise. Last week Daddy, Boo and I had spent some very unproductive sessions trying to come up with something to give Mogie for Mother’s Day. Finally I decided to just go to L-ville and see what I could find. Ash and her little sisters joined me for the adventure. All was well until I had to wait at a traffic light and Eloise died. (This is the point where those of you who said I shouldn’t name my car after a dead time traveling mouse can say, “I told you so.”) The good thing is that she started again right away, the bad thing was that she died at least three more times that night. We did eventually find a present for Mogie, a nice lamp. And we did make it back home that night. Monday morning I took Eloise to the shop in T-ville. That afternoon I got a call telling me all sorts of bad news. Apparently Eloise, a four cylinder car, has been running on only one. The mechanic said he didn’t know how she kept going. So there was all sorts of bad news (which I will not attempt to recount because mechanical diagnoses do not stay in my mind), the low estimate on the cost seemed to be $700.00. This made me sad and pretty mad as well since the problem appeared to have been caused by incompetent mechanical work before I bought it.
Then yesterday I got a call telling me that what they thought had caused the trouble wasn’t actually the problem and the cost including the hours spent attempting to diagnose and fix Eloise is going to right around $550.00! So, I’m very thankful about that and I get to go and pick her up today.
So, soon Eloise and I will be back together and that will be good. But what really came of this week is my realization that I need to get back on the job hunt again. I enjoy this job but what it really is, is something to tide me over until I can find a real job (hopefully with real benefits.) I have a life to live and I need a job that will allow me to do that.
