in which Liz is frazzled by work, but finds a minor bright spot in an excellent lunch

Fall semester at Cornell starts midway through next week, and this weekend is, I think, freshman orientation. Ithaca is swarming with college students and their bewildered parents, many of them very lost and often driving the wrong way down some of Ithaca's one-way streets.

We have been absurdly busy at the smoke shop. Today we were also short-staffed. It was not a good combination. By 7pm, I was beginning to fantasize about slapping every new customer upside the head and bodily throwing them all out of the store.

And tomorrow I get to do it all over again, since Saturday is usually a slow day and PM wrote the schedule without taking the student influx into account! Yay.

On a brighter note, several months ago a new restaurant called Waffle Frolic opened on the Commons -- as their name implies, they mostly serve waffles, but they also make some sandwiches. I stopped by Wednesday evening on my way home from the library and tried a waffle; it was tasty. I also picked up a menu with the thought of trying their sandwiches for lunch over the next few days. So far, I have eaten grilled cheese with roasted garlic and portabella mushrooms, which was also tasty, and grilled cheese with artichoke and red pepper, which was delicious. I think they also do a turkey-based chili, which I may sample tomorrow.

Working near the Commons is very convenient when it comes to getting good lunches. :-)
