[Fic] "Take with you the swiftest of your wolves" -- Chronicles of Narnia

Today is NFE reveal day! I wrote two stories this year: one assignment and one pinch hit. I will talk about each in a separate post. :)

This was my pinch-hit, written for
Syrena_of_the_lake.

I'm just going to copypaste my own brainstorming here, to give a sense of my thought process:

Okay, to start with I have nixed prompts #2 (don't have the time to learn how to write police procedurals), #3 (uninterested in a modern!AU, since the archaic setting is a large part of why I love Narnia), and #5 (uninterested in any of the proposed crossovers).

So I'm left with an exploration of a minor canon character's effect on major events, using said minor character or an OC to explore some worldbuilding... or whatever mythology Jadis's followers use to justify their actions.

The solution is simple! I shall write about the second Wolf in LWW, who escapes from the Stone Table and is tasked with raising the White Army. (I'm fairly sure the White Army is not a canonical name, but I've used it before and it strikes me as perfect propagandistic vocabulary, so.) This helpfully allows for worldbuilding, a minor canon character getting a day in the sun (or moon, as it were, since the events in question take place over one night), and an exploration of Jadis's followers' ideology in practice. :)

[Initial outline redacted because I accidentally wrote the lead-in to the Stone Table encounter rather than the aftermath. So go all our best-laid plans. *wry* Also I might still write all that someday as a follow-up...]

Step one, then, is to give Our Protagonist a name. I like Teutonic-flavored names for Talking Wolves, so what's a good Old English female name that has martial overtones? *pause for some quick and dirty Google searches*

I return and declare that Our Protagonist is hereby named Eadhild. Or maybe Eadhilda? No, let's stick with Eadhild. And on that note, I shall get started!

Look, you cannot wave fictional theology/ideology under my nose and not expect me to leap at the chance to play around. :DDD If you want to comment on this post, you can do so over here on Dreamwidth, where there are currently (
