It's been an amusing few days to say the least. I've yet to find a time to drive two hours into the country and take the artsy photo's of the dogs yet, but it's a project I'm looking forward to. My manager/owner is out of town for quite some time, so I'm on an "extended work week". The only reason that I don't mind doing this sort of thing is because I know that he's given me a number of days off with pay for it.
Around home, it's been even quieter. We've both taken to reading quietly at night....no blaring television or music. It's different for us, but it's so peaceful. I think we're also saving up for our next big party, which is one of those murder mysteries. That shall prove interesting however, as we have a great group of people invited and enough rooms (don't ask me why 2 people needed a three story condo, but we still never seem to have enough room) to turn it into a weekend.
Across the street, they are putting in a playground in the elementary school. I've decided I have the time to go over there a few hours every night and help build it. I live in a very suburban area, and it's about time they put one in. Speaking of volunteering, I found an amazing organization in town that I am giving my time to. It's a non profit organization that helps children in social services and the welfare system, it makes sure that their rights are taken care of and that they are heard. The Children's Advocate is a good service, but tends to be barraged with so many things to do that it doesn't do as well as it could. Like most social programs, it is severely underfunded.
In fact, if this job paid me any money at all, I'd be most happy to consider this my dream job. But I think it's fitting that I get to donate back those years that I spent in the system. Maybe it wasn't all in vain.
