Summary: Dean's first steps. For

The first time Dean walks, he doesn't half-ass it. One minute he's crawling around on the floor, perfectly happy. The next he's up and walking towards John, a look of concentration on his face that looks kind of like he hurts. And it's not just a few steps. Not Dean. Nope, he makes it all the way across the room -- to John, to his dad, who isn't even watching at first, just walking out of the room.
"John," Mary says, softly, and he turns, sees Dean walking towards him. He doesn't wait. He doesn't swoop down and pick him up. Not at first. Dean stumbles after him, determined, and finally John turns around and picks him up, but only when he's walked nearly the width of the room. Only when he's already fallen down.
Mary has this horrible feeling that this is the way it's going to be. Dean following in John's footsteps, wanting him to wait. Wanting his approval, and getting it too late.
