Summary: "We'll have hundreds of children. Thousands!" For

"We always did say we were going to marry and have a million children," Selphie says. She sounds almost rueful. Irvine sits down next to her, slipping one arm around her and rubbing her belly gently. "Two down, thousands more to go."
"How're you feeling today?"
"Like I'm having twins."
Irvine looks like he wants to laugh, but he just caresses the small of her back gently, working his fingers into the spot that's begun to ache all the time. Selphie makes a pleased noise, closing her eyes, and Irvine smiles a little more. She's getting big, now, and it looks slightly comical on her. She waddles like a duck, but he'll never tell her. It's kind of cute, anyway. "Do you mind not having octopulets, like we planned? I'm worried enough as it is."
"Even Commander Oblivious is treating me like a china doll," Selphie says, huffing. She's smiling, though, and she nestles closer, putting her head on his shoulder. A dreamy look comes into her face. "Do you remember our 'baby'?"
Irvine chuckles, kissing her temple. "Your doll? The one who didn't have a head? Hopefully these two won't be like that."
She rolls her eyes at him, elbowing him gently in the stomach. "I was so angry when Seifer broke her."
"I don't remember that."
"Mm. I only did because he mentioned it to me. You know, he's surprisingly good with pregnant women."
Irvine raises an eyebrow. "Are we talking about the same Seifer, here? Tall, blond, arrogant? Entourage of two?"
"He's not so bad now," Selphie says. She was the first to start talking to him again, apart from Squall and Rinoa, when he came back into Garden. Irvine was suprised -- and yet, somehow, not. It's Selphie, after all. Of course she didn't hold a grudge. "And he mostly ignored that I was pregnant, which was exactly what I wanted. I'm not fragile, you know."
"Of course not. I still remember when you whipped Seifer with your skipping rope for rubbing sand in Zell's face. He was so startled I think I actually caught him with tears in his eyes."
"I was so angry," she says, laughing. For a moment, they're quiet, and she nestles closer still, closing her eyes. "Sometimes, I wish we remembered more. We had kind of a nice childhood, for war orphans. I bet most other people in our situation weren't nearly as lucky."
He runs his fingers through her hair. "Yeah."
"We should take the kids there, sometime," she says, dreamily. "Fix up the orphanage, make it a holiday home for all of us. Can you imagine Squall in shorts?"
Irvine snickers. "I try not to."
"Rinoa could come along too. An honorary member. Our babies could play with her little one. Everyone could bring whoever they like -- Quistis could bring Xu, or... Zell could bring that girl from the library. Is he actually going out with her, yet?"
"I don't think so," Irvine says, and rolls his eyes. "Maybe it should be my solemn duty as his best friend to get them together."
"He'll get there in the end," Selphie says, brightly. She cuddles closer. "I think I want a nap now."
"Do you remember the song Matron used to sing to us, sometimes, when we couldn't sleep?"
Selphie shakes her head. Irvine gets up and helps her to the bed, getting her a cup of water, an extra pillow, and then he sits on the edge of her bed and holds her hand.
"I'll sing it to you?"
"You can try," she says, teasingly, sleep blurring the edges of her words already. Irvine sticks his tongue out at her.
