"You know, we've got a creepy kind of symmetry going."
Squall raised an eyebrow, managing to convey both a tiny amount of curiosity and the fact that he was much more interested in his coffee. Seifer rolled his eyes, stretching his legs under the table to crowd Squall in a way he was bound to hate.
"You know. Both gunbladers, both scarred across the face -- " he ran a finger over his own scar, smirking slightly -- "and by each other, no less. Both of us knights to and fucked over by a sorceress."
"Rinoa and I broke up, that's all," Squall said, almost mildly.
"And you acted like an emotional cripple for months."
"It's not quite the same thing."
"Well, whatever. I still think it means we have some kind of weird symmetry. Which is why we always end up in the same place. We're never going to be able to get rid of each other."
Squall snorted softly, looking into his coffee as if it might hold some answer to the eternal question: why is Seifer so infuriating? "I should hope not," he said, finally. "An eternity with you could get very boring. And I'm not sure your company would improve much if you were a zombie."
"Very funny," Seifer said, rolling his eyes.
