It had to happen someday, Rydia told herself. She'd known all along about the way Cecil and Rosa felt about each other. And it wasn't like she'd tried to stop it, tried to come between them somehow. She hadn't. And it wasn't like she felt anything for Cecil: somewhere inside her there was still resentment about what had happened to her home, to her mother.
But something in her felt it like an anticlimax, like a betrayal, like an ending, and it was only when she saw them together after that she realised she was jealous of Cecil, not Rosa.
