Summary: Getting very, very wet. For 10lilies.

"Barney calls it the rule of clouds. It always, always rains when you forget your umbrella. And always whenever he has the urge to paint something outside."

Mary laughs softly, wringing out her hair the minute they get into the relative shelter close to the front door. "I think that's just called Sod's Law."

Jane gets the door open, stepping inside and shaking water from her own hair as well, closing the door immediately after Mary and hurriedly getting her sodden shoes off. "I suppose so. What -- mmph!"

Her words give way to a smile when Mary kisses her and she wraps her arms around her tight, pressing against her, glad that at least they're both sopping wet together and there's no way they can make each other any more wet. It's still a heady kind of pleasure, being able to kiss Mary, to touch her, to run a hand down her side and share a smile with her and catch her tiny little shiver that isn't from being cold and wet.

"I need to change," she says, a little ruefully, when she pulls back. "I hate being in wet clothes."

"You could just take your wet clothes off -- don't bother with dry ones."

"Mary!"

"I'm your girlfriend, I'm allowed to say such improper things," Mary says, teasingly, a laugh in her voice. Then she pulls away a little and plucks at her own wet clothes, wrinkling her nose a little. "Though you've got the right idea, I think. I hate the feeling of wearing wet clothes. Getting warm and dry would be a really good idea. I trust your brothers are out and I know your parents have gone to that new art gallery."

Jane raises an eyebrow. "Did you -- "

"Yes, I suggested they go." Mary smirks a little. "So I have you all to myself -- and we have the house all to ourselves."

Jane finds herself smiling, at the same time a shiver works its way down her spine: a combination of being cold and wet and a little thrilled surprise at the look on Mary's face. She wonders when Mary slipped so easily into this, and wonders if Mary is going to leave her behind or drag her along for the ride. The latter, she hopes -- and then Mary catches her hand, pulling her upstairs. Jane follows her, watching her, drinking in the sight of her -- her hair darkened by the wetness, her clothes clinging to her.

She might not look beautiful now, looking a little worse for wear, but -- there's something about her slightly rumpled appearance Jane likes. They stop, at the top of the stairs, and Jane feels like she's taking all her courage in her hands again, like when she wanted to tell Mary, like when she wanted to kiss her.

She kisses Mary now, smiling, and surer now, more confident. And then she pulls back.

"You said something about getting our wet clothes off?"
