This is gorgeous and sad, and they both give off so many mixed signals it's a wonder anything happens at all. The tension builds in wonderfully understated fashion, with so much implied and unsaid between them, and it's only the weight of everything else that lets Vossler give in to wanting this, then. While I've always wished they could be happier, this is a persuasive look at why they're not.

I think you mean 'taut', instead of 'taught' in the third last paragraph.
