Summary: Kain should pay for what he did, people say. For mount_ordeals.
"I know what I deserve."
Rosa takes his hand in hers, glad for the relative privacy of this room, even if the debate is a thing for the whole kingdom to ponder. "Kain, you know it wasn't your fault. Not really. Please..."
"Laws can be changed, we know why you did what you did," Cecil says, softly, trying to meet Kain's eyes. He doesn't know why Kain came back, knowing someone would raise this question about his loyalty, despite the loyalty he'd shown later.
"I don't want the law to be changed."
There are tears in Rosa's eyes, but Cecil doesn't move to comfort her. Not yet. Not now, not until she's had her say, had a chance to convince Kain. "What's the point in sacrificing yourself to their peace of mind?"
Kain looks up, meeting Cecil's eyes squarely, giving him a piercing look as if he's trying to force something through into his mind. He speaks in answer to Rosa, but directs it at Cecil. "A peaceful kingdom for you and Rosa to rule."
Cecil wants that. He wants that more than anything: peace, and quiet, and comfort. But not at this cost. "Kain..."
"Cecil will do what's right," Rosa tells him, firmly.
He nods to that.
