"Something sweet for you," River says, coming into the engine room with something in her hand. Obediently and with a smile, Kaylee opens her mouth to let River pop the tiny square of chocolate in, and smiles her thanks as she savours the sweet taste. Fruit is one thing, proper chocolate quite another. Of course, the different between fruit and chocolate is that you can have too much of the latter -- but Kaylee's not in any danger of that.
"Any particular reason for it?" she asks, when her mouth isn't full of chocolate anymore. River shrugs gracefully and finds somewhere to sit, her bare feet curling into little toeholds to help her keep her balance as Serenity weaves a little.
"Wanted to share something with you."
Kaylee smiles at that and nods, squatting down to tinker with the engine. She likes River's presence, the way she can talk and the way she can keep quiet, and the way she knows which one is needed at any given time, and the way neither silence nor chatter becomes uncomfortable in the way both can be with her brother.
She looks up from the engine to find River right there. It should be unsettling that she can sneak up in that way, but Kaylee just smiles as River kisses her, and as she tastes the chocolate. "Thanks," she says, belatedly, as River moves to leave the room.
The girl smiles one of her bright, nonsensical smiles that always make Kaylee smile all the more. "You're very welcome."
