Summary: Braska watches Auron from the Farplane. For
muggy_mountain.
Braska never doubted that, somehow, Auron would keep his promises. Even after Yunalesca struck him down, he carried on, and Braska knows now why he chose Auron as a guardian, above and beyond any other reason. He's strong, yes, but the point is that he uses his strength in the right way, and only in the direction which his dedication to whatever cause demands. Even when Yuna is in danger, Braska finds he cannot fear for her. Auron still walks among the living, to protect her.
In a way, Braska has been with him every step of the way. Not with him, but watching him, watching him go through the motions of life in Zanarkand -- time and place have no meaning to the dead -- and watching him come back to life and take Tidus with him back to his own Spira. Then, Braska had been afraid that Auron would consider his job done, and lose his purpose -- but he waited. For Yuna, for Tidus. And took up his sword again, going with her.
Sometimes, Braska wishes he could put a hand on Auron's shoulder in comfort, as he did when they journeyed together. Auron holds together a façade that says he is completely in control, unaffected, but Braska can tell he is not, can see somehow past the blank expression to a world of hurt that flinches every time he sees a familiar face or thing.
In a way, Braska is glad for Auron's convictions. In another, he is angry at himself and at Jecht for placing Auron in that position, knowing what kind of man he is. He will never give up until it's done, no matter how many generations he has to live.
(Braska is glad for his daughter's strength, a strength she learns from the guardians with her. He is glad that she is strong enough to end the cycle, to send Auron. He wouldn't have been able to, were he her.)
