Selling to Half Price Books

On my recent visit to Dallas, I carried with me a box of books. In this box were ten copies each of five different graphic novels that I had published. Now that I'm no longer publishing, sales are slow enough that I'm warehousing many boxes of books I don't need. Selling to HPB anonymous August 15 2007, 17:37:33 UTC
eddvick,

Thanks for the very interesting blog about selling the same items to different Half Price Book stores.

I used to sell quite a bit to the Plano, Preston and Richardson stores. I've always received terrible offers from the mothership at Northwest Hightway. So I don't go there for selling.

Not surprised that Richardson gave you the best offer. They always seemed like the fairest to me on their offers. Of course, I still believe the main factor is who is doing the pricing.

My worst experience at one of the other HPB stores was when I brought in 203 books, new and old, and was stunned to hear my name called less than five minutes later. She offered me $50.75 - 25 cents per book. All she did was count the books which I had neatly boxed with the spines up.

Best experience. I brought in a fiction book by a famous author along with a few dozen others, not realizing the book was worth over $500.00. When the little girl pricing my books requested the manager over the intercom I got suspicious and listened in behind one of the stacks.

She excitedly told him I had a book worth over $500 and asked if she had to tell me.

He was honest enough to say that I had to be told. I was offered $100 for the book. So I was happy with that manager's integrity.
